Job Summary
PKF Cape Town is seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented Accounting & Compliance Manager to join our dynamic team. This individual will be responsible for managing accounting engagements, including compilations and management reports of companies' trusts and individuals.
REQUIREMENTS:
BCom Accounting or PGDA / CTA (completed or in progress).
Completed SAIPA or CIMA articles.
Eligible to register or already registered as a Professional Accountant (SAIPA) would be advantageous.
Minimum of 2-4 years post-articles experience in an accounting or audit firm.
Strong technical knowledge of IFRS for SMEs, Companies Act, and tax legislation.
Proven experience in tax calculations and financial statement preparation.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
Excellent technical accounting and analytical skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
Proficient in accounting software (CaseWare, Xero or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
Client-service oriented with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Organised, deadline-driven, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. * Collaborative team player with leadership potential.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES, but will not be limited to:
Compilations & Accounting
Prepare and review annual financial statements (AFS) in accordance with IFRS for SMEs.
Ensure all balance sheet and income statement items are substantiated with supporting documentation and analytical review.
Manage compilation engagements from planning to sign-off, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
Oversee monthly management accounts, reconciliations, and accounting processes for client entities.
Draft and review engagement letters, subordination agreements, and management confirmations.
Trusts & Individuals
Prepare and review of annual financial statements and tax returns for trusts and individuals.
Review trust deeds, resolutions, and distributions for compliance and accuracy.
Manage accounting and tax compliance for high-net-worth individuals and family groups.
Provide guidance on optimal structuring, estate, and succession planning considerations.
Tax Compliance & Advisory
Review and oversee the submission of income tax, provisional tax, VAT, and PAYE returns for individuals, companies, and trusts.
Reconcile tax computations to financial statements and ensure timely submission of all returns.
Liaise with SARS regarding audits, verifications, and objections.
Provide tax planning support and identify value-adding opportunities for clients.
People & Client Management
Supervise, train, and review work performed by junior and intermediate accountants.
Manage client communication and ensure exceptional service delivery.
Monitor project progress and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
Contribute to the firm's knowledge base by sharing updates on accounting and tax legislation.
Maintain professional and ethical standards in all interactions with clients and team members.
