The Berg River Water User Association (BRWUA) manages and supports the equitable and sustainable use of water from the Berg River by its members--agriculture, industry, and municipalities--in line with the National Water Act and applicable regulations. The Association's area of operation stretches from the Berg River Dam to the estuary at Velddrif, with a strong focus on integrated water resource management and governance.
BRWUA is seeking an experienced Accountant & Administrative Officer to support the association's financial administration, governance processes, and general office operations.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
This is a hands-on accounting and governance support role, suited to a stable, detail-oriented professional who enjoys working in a smaller organisation where accuracy, continuity, and reliability are essential. The role will appeal to an accountant who is comfortable combining accounting work with governance and administrative responsibilities.
The incumbent will work closely with the CEO and provide administrative and secretarial support to the Board and committees.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial & Accounting
Perform day-to-day accounting functions, including payments, reconciliations, and payroll
Maintain accurate accounting records using Sage Pastel Accounting & Payroll
Prepare monthly financial and management information
Assist with budgeting and cash-flow monitoring
Support annual audit processes and liaise with auditors and service providers
Ensure compliance with statutory and financial reporting requirements
Maintain appropriate financial controls and supporting documentation
Governance & Secretarial Support
Coordinate Board, committee, and management meetings
Prepare agendas, meeting packs, and clear, accurate minutes of meetings
Maintain governance documentation, resolutions, and statutory records
Track decisions and monitor follow-up actions
Support compliance and governance reporting requirements
Administrative & Office Support
Manage general office administration, filing, and document control
Coordinate correspondence and record-keeping
Liaise with members, service providers, and stakeholders
Provide dependable administrative support across the association
REQUIREMENTS:
A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting or Financial Management (degree or diploma)
Approximately 6-8 years' relevant accounting and administrative experience
Solid practical experience with Sage Pastel Accounting & Payroll
Exposure to governance administration, company secretarial support, or minute-taking
Strong MS Excel and Word skills
Well-developed organisational and record-keeping skills
Fluent in English and Afrikaans
Experience in the agricultural, water, or environmental sector will be advantageous
