Overall Job Purpose:

  • To review and edit course contents; to ensure that the language used is of high standard, aligned with the NQF level, aligned with conventions of the disciplines, and reflect the institutional guidelines.
  • To provide a quality check on the accurateness of marks, and alignment of rubric with instructions. Where inconsistencies or poor language use is picked up, to propose improvements. Such editor will contribute to the learning experience.
Content editorial function
  • Proofread and copy-edit educational content for accuracy, consistency, tone, and alignment with institutional style guides and learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers, subject matter experts, and multimedia teams to improve language clarity, flow, and learner engagement.
  • Review technical referencing and correct where needed, aligned with Institutional Referencing policies and guidelines.
  • Provide constructive editorial feedback and support ongoing improvement through iterative content reviews.
UX writing and creation of contents
  • Contribute to process documentation, editorial guidelines, and content quality assurance frameworks.
  • Assist the Senior Lecturer/Lecturer, Deputy Deans, and Deans with content research and writing as requested.
  • Collaborate with learning material creators and provide feedback that is sound, supported, and solution-driven.
  • Improve the quality of learning material by providing UX writing as requested.
  • Research and authenticate information as needed.
Quality Assurance
  • Verify that all course components meet the expected NQF level in terms of complexity, language, and cognitive demand.
  • Compare assessments with qualification guides in terms of requirements and structure.
  • Conduct comprehensive quality assurance checks across all written assets, such as activities, handouts, assessments, and multimedia elements.
  • Make sure marks in assessments add up correctly.
Minimum Educational Requirement:
  • Bachelor of Arts in Applied Linguistics
  • Bachelor of Arts Languages (English as a major)
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Arts Honours in Applied Linguistics (Major in English) (Ideal)
  • Additional qualification in Education or EdTech will be an advantage (Ideal)
  • Discipline knowledge will be an advantage
Minimum Work Requirement:
  • Tertiary education - language editing or course writing (portfolio of work completed to be provided)
2 Year(s) * Tertiary Education - teaching will be an advantage 2 Year(s)
