Summary
The HR YES Intern will provide administrative and coordination support to the HR team across recruitment, onboarding, employee experience, HR systems, and general HR operations. This role is designed to give the intern exposure to the full HR lifecycle while developing foundational HR and professional skills.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruitment Support

  • Assist with sourcing candidates for junior/entry-level roles.
  • Schedule interviews and send calendar invites to hiring managers and candidates.
  • Sit in on interviews as an HR observer to learn recruitment and selection practices.
  • Conduct basic background checks (e.g., criminal, credit).
  • Assist in preparing offer letters and regret notifications
Onboarding:
  • Send personalized welcome emails to new hires prior to their start date.
  • Assist with preparing onboarding packs and setting up meeting rooms for onboarding sessions.
  • Help load new starters on HR systems (Workday, Peakon, etc.).
  • Support new employees with access (access cards, biometric/face recognition) on their first day.
HR Administration:
  • Monitor and manage HR mailboxes and route queries appropriately.
  • Maintain digital and physical employee files.
  • Update HR trackers, including the recruitment tracker, staff list etc.
  • Clean-up of HR systems
Employee Experience & General HR Support:
  • Support the coordination of HR and employee?engagement initiatives (e.g., wellness days, check?ins, stay interviews).
  • Assist in buying vouchers, ordering baby gifts, flowers, or other items required for employee?centred initiatives.
  • Provide general support to the HR team as needed
PERSON REQUIREMENTS:
Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree/ Diploma in HR Management or related field
Programme Requirements (YES Specific)
  • Must meet YES programme eligibility criteria
  • Must be a South African youth between 18 - 29 years old
  • Be from a previously disadvantaged background (Black, Coloured, Indian)
  • Have not participated in the YES4Youth programme before
  • Not currently enrolled in a learnership or internship
What the Intern Will Gain:
