Worship Pastor (Part Time)George Methodist Family Church

George Methodist Family Church is a lively, vibrant church in the Western Cape. We are looking for a part-time Worship Pastor to lead, grow, and care for our worship ministry. This role is for someone who loves Jesus, loves the church, and can lead people well, both musically and spiritually.

The Worship Pastor will oversee all aspects of worship on Sundays and special services, work closely with volunteers, and help build a healthy, excellent, and sustainable worship culture in line with the vision of the church.

Key Responsibilities

Administration and Planning

Prepare and publish worship rosters for worship leaders, musicians, sound, and media teams at least one month in advance, preferably further ahead. Use shared tools like Notion and Google Docs so information is clear, central, and accessible. Ensure all Sundays and special services are fully staffed, including the one Sunday per month when you may take time off from leading worship. Choose suitable songs and continually grow and evaluate the church's worship repertoire.

Worship Ministry Development

Organise regular rehearsals and training for worship, sound, and media teams. Recruit, train, and mentor new volunteers, with a focus on developing musicians and worship leaders. Encourage the spiritual growth of team members and their ability to lead the church in worship. Learn from other worship ministries and apply what is helpful and appropriate.

Service Preparation and Excellence

Make sure ProPresenter and all media are prepared, tested, and ready before services. Work closely with sound and media teams to improve quality and consistency. Oversee worship equipment, including care, maintenance, and upgrades. Ensure services run smoothly even when you are not personally leading.

Leadership and Vision

Help shape and communicate a clear vision for worship that aligns with the wider church vision. Take initiative to solve problems and improve systems. Set goals with your line manager and give regular updates. Identify and mentor future worship leaders for long-term sustainability.

Time and Presence

Maintain agreed office hours. Be present at rehearsals, Sunday services, and special events as required. Attend staff meetings, quarterly church meetings, and the AGM.

Communication and Team Culture

Communicate clearly, kindly, and on time with volunteers and staff. Build a positive, encouraging, and spiritually healthy team culture. Offer feedback, encouragement, and accountability to volunteers.

Compliance and Accountability

Meet regularly with your line manager and participate in annual reviews. Follow church safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection policies. Manage church equipment responsibly. Work within the agreed ministry budget and keep accurate records.

Church Involvement

Be actively involved in the life of the church beyond Sundays. Work with other ministries, including children and youth, to support worship across age groups. Take responsibility for your own growth through training, mentorship, or other resources when needed.

Who We Are Looking For

A committed Christian with a heart for worship and the local church. Someone who can lead teams with grace, structure, and clarity. Organised, reliable, and able to follow through. Comfortable working with volunteers and developing people over time.
