Job Title:

Wireman Technician

Job Purpose:

The Wireman Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of electrical wiring systems, panels, and related equipment in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. The role ensures that all electrical work complies with national electrical codes and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, connect, and maintain electrical wiring, control systems, and lighting. Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and blueprints. Assemble, test, and troubleshoot electrical panels, switchgear, and distribution boards. Conduct fault finding and repair electrical circuits or components. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical systems and equipment. Install and terminate cables, conduits, and trunking systems. Ensure compliance with SANS wiring regulations (SANS 10142) and safety protocols. Test electrical systems using multimeters, insulation testers, and other diagnostic tools. Collaborate with engineers, electricians, and other technicians on projects. Complete job reports, maintenance logs, and compliance certificates.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong understanding of electrical systems and wiring principles. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and diagrams. Skilled in electrical testing, fault finding, and repair. Good knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Qualifications:

N3-N6 Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification. Wireman's License (Registered with the Department of Labour) - Single Phase or Three Phase. Valid driver's license (advantageous). Minimum 2-5 years of relevant electrical or wiring experience.

Work Environment:

Field and workshop-based work, sometimes requiring travel to various sites. May involve working at heights, in confined spaces, or under varied weather conditions. Must adhere to strict safety and quality standards.
