We are seeking to appoint a Wholesale Pharmacist. The role will be based at the Roodepoort Lea Glen branch and will report into the Responsible and Compliance Pharmacist.

Job Purpose:



To ensure compliance with the Medicines and Related Substances Act, Act 101 of 1965 and the Pharmacy Act, Act 53 or 1974 as amended, as relates to the receipt, storage and destruction of S6 products as well as the balancing of registers for S5 and S6 products, and as relates to the invoicing, assembly, packing and distribution of and any administration functions required for S6 Medicines for UPD wholesale. To perform the functions of a pharmacist to enable the company to ensure that there is continuous Pharmacist supervision of premises during operating hours and where necessary act as a locum for other pharmacists employed by the company and to be a member of the on call Pharmacist team in the event of a customer requiring emergency life saving medicines. To assist the Responsible and Compliance Pharmacist with other Pharmaceutical requirements, including but not limited to GWP/GDP/GMP adherence, preparing and updating SOP's, conducting self inspection audits, conducting staff training, acting as a tutor for pharmacist assistants and preparing for audits by third parties.

Quality Outputs Of The Job



Duties:

To ensure compliance with the Medicines and Related Substances Act, Act 101 of 1965 and the Pharmacy Act, Act 53 or 1974 as amended, as relates to the receipt, storage, return for credit and destruction of, and balancing of registers for S5 and S6 products, and as relates to the invoicing, assembly, packing and distribution of and any administration functions required for S6 products for UPD wholesale.


Understand the requirements of the Medicines and Related Substances Act, Act 101 of 1965 and Pharmacy Act, Act 53 of 1974 as amended and keep up-to-date with amendments to these Acts.


Receive S6 products from receiving department, perform all receiving fine checking functions and ensure that these products are correctly packed away into the correct storage bin. Check that Grns for S6 products are correctly and accurately captured.


Ensure that S6 medicines/substances in UPD wholesale are safely and effectively stored.


Receive customer orders, check the legality of orders and assemble, check and pack orders for Schedule 6 product for UPD Wholesale.


Ensure that all customer orders are picked, checked and packed in terms of UPD SOP's, and are easily identifiable, and are picked and checked correctly, accurately and timeously according to the stipulated dispatch and delivery cut off times and that the quality of the picking process is checked and maintained.


Ensure that all original S6 orders forms are returned within 7 days, attached to the pick slip and filed for easy retrieval.


Ensure that the SOP is implemented where the forms are not received.


Perform weekly cycle counts and daily cycle counts, where required, to ensure that the stock on hand of Schedule 6 (HFD) is correct and balances and that registers are properly maintained and balanced.


Perform daily counts on identified high risk products and investigate any discrepancies.


Manage the process for the destruction of damaged, unsalable and unsafe stock and maintain the documentation required to confirm destruction of these products for UPD Wholesale.


Obtain check and file computer generated Schedule 5 and S6 product registers and balance the same in accordance with the requirements of the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act and the Pharmacy Act.


To ensure that any errors reported are rectified, and the necessary preventative measures are implemented to prevent reoccurrence of these errors.


Ensure strict implementation of SOP's including but not limited to credit returns, destruction of pharmaceutical products and receipt, and storage of S6 products, assembly and distribution of S6 Medicines in UPD wholesale.

Duties:

To perform the functions of a pharmacist to enable the company to ensure that there is continuous Pharmacist supervision of premises during operating hours and where necessary act as a locum for other pharmacists employed by the company and to be a member of the on call Pharmacist team in the event of a customer requiring emergency life saving medicines.


Ensure that in the event of your absence from the premises a suitably qualified Pharmacist is on site and that a signed written delegation of authority to that Pharmacist is in place and when required, appoint a Locum Pharmacist and ensure that the Locum has the appropriate qualifications and experience and is trained in the relevant UPD SOP's Where appropriately experienced Pharmacists are not available, suitable supervised classroom and on the job training must be provided prior to such Pharmacist taking on responsibilities of the Pharmacist in a specific area.


Perform the functions of/ act as a locum for the Responsible and Compliance Pharmacist in another area or department within UPD wholesale and/or UPD Distribution in the event that they are away from work or not available at specific times to ensure that there is continuous Pharmacist supervision of the premises during operating hours.


Assist the Responsible and Compliance Pharmacist to ensure that there are suitably qualified pharmacists on duty to lock and unlock the premises and to supervise the process during operating hours particularly after normal working hours.


Perform after hours on call duties for customers requiring urgent life saving medicines.

Duties:

To assist the Responsible and Compliance Pharmacist with other Pharmaceutical requirements, including but not limited to GWP/GDP/GMP adherence, preparing and updating SOP's, conducting self inspection audits, conducting staff training, acting as a tutor for pharmacist assistants and preparing for audits by third parties.

Monitor systems in place to ensure maintenance of correct batch traceability records and ensure adherence to FEEFO/FIFO batch rotation requirements for the S6 products that are concerned, to ensure batch traceability during but not limited to receipt, assembly, storage and distribution, returns for credit and destruction of S6 product.


Conduct and document Self-Inspections Audits in terms of SOP's as assigned by the Responsible and Compliance Pharmacist, to monitor and ensure compliance to SOP's in your areas of responsibility as well as any other area as assigned by the Responsible and Compliance Pharmacist.


Be an active Member of the SOP Committee and involved in investigating, making recommendations relating to, establishing and updating SOP's and policies with regards to Acts and services provided by UPD wholesale and UPD Specialised Distribution.


Assist with conducting and documenting "mock" recalls at least twice a year to test adherence to

UPD SOP's and timelines identify areas of possible delays and/or non compliance and propose and implement solutions to these observations.


Assist with the administration and co-ordination batch recalls/withdrawal activities and document the outcomes.


Ensure that there is adequate segregation to ensure that cross over between UPD Wholesale and UPD Distribution is prevented.


Ensure high standards of housekeeping, pest control and cleanliness is maintained in the Warehouse particularly in your area of responsibility and ensure that the necessary equipment is available and maintained to ensure the same with particular emphasis on ensuring that immediate cleaning of spillages in terms of the Standard Operations Procedures take place.


Ensure that there are systems, particularly security systems, in place to prevent unauthorized persons accessing the areas for which you are responsible both during and outside normal working hours.


Address and resolve any technical complaints relating to the storage and handling of stock from customers, clients and/or the MCC.


Take corrective measures in respect of deficiencies identified with regards to inspection reports of the South African Pharmacy Council, Medicines Control Council and Self Inspection audits and internal audit reports in specific area of responsibility.


Ensure UPD Wholesale processes and procedures for return of product SOP's , processes, procedures, delivery, distribution and handling storage procedures, do not compromise or adversely affect safety, efficacy and quality of medicines/Scheduled products stored, delivered and returned for credit in the specific warehouse and ensure that these processes and procedures do not subject the product to contamination and/or deterioration with special reference to product being returned for credit and destined to be returned to saleable stock.


Perform any other functions required to ensure GWP/GDP/GMP adherence as identified by the Responsible and Compliance Pharmacist.
