Molo Mhlaba Schools is a nonprofit organisation whose mission is to provide safe, affordable, quality education for girls in their communities. Launched in 2018, Molo Mhlaba's first campus is based in Harare, Khayelitsha, and is pioneering the 'Micro Campus' model for a pan-African STEAM education for girls in their communities. By establishing local, low-fee, independent girls' schools in disadvantaged communities, Molo Mhlaba provides South Africa's most vulnerable social group with access to high quality STEAM-focused education and career orientation. Our aim is to grow into a network of 10 Montessori STEAM primary schools in 10 years across South African townships and rural areas. We are looking to appoint a Wellness Coach to join our Psychosocial Unit at the Molo Mhlaba School.

Purpose:
The Molo Mhlaba Wellness Coach will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and reporting on our child safeguarding interventions. The candidate is expected to develop our therapeutic strategy, curriculum development and implementation while working within a multidisciplinary team of teachers, coaches, and external stakeholders to advance the organizational strategy.
Responsibilities:
To provide support and manage the welfare of vulnerable children and families. This will include working with children with a range of issues, such as learning disabilities, drug or alcohol dependency, physically and emotionally abused. And, one may be involved in providing physical care, offering individual/group counseling, leading group therapy sessions or life skills workshop facilitation.
To ensure that a social work service with regards to the care, support, protection and development of vulnerable children, groups, families through the relevant programs is rendered.
Develop a child-centred gender-based violence curriculum that addresses social instability in any form.
Support partner therapeutic interventions at the organisation.
Manage Molo Mhlaba's referral network and partnerships.
Mentor and advice volunteers and interns to ensure an effective social work service.
Provide and oversee the provision of the highest levels of care and service in accordance with the organization's vision, mission, policies and procedures and also other Service level agreements that the organization is contracted with.
The Wellness Coach will work collaboratively with Child Care Dept., exploring underlying issues to empower them to consider change.
Develop and implement a plan of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team,
Keep up to date with new developments in the social work/counselling field.
Requirements:
Have a Bachelor's degree in a in Social work or related field (e.g counselling, psychology etc).
Must be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) or related regulatory body.
2-3 years' work experience with children and youth in a school setting.
Ability to write reports, program plans, care plans/IDPs and donor/sponsor correspondence
Valid driver's license is advantageous
Interest and passion to work with children and families
Understanding of social work statutory duties, therapeutic work, and other services as required by the Children's Act 38 of 2005 (Norms & Standards and Child Protection)
Willingness to learn, be flexible, work well under pressure and positive attitude and willingness to get involved in a social justice non-profit work environment
Ability to communicate fluently in isiXhosa and English
Have a high proficiency in computer and internet usage (Microsoft Office, Google mail and calendar, cloud storage, social media).
Must have experience in mentoring and supporting junior staff.
Self-directed leader with the ability to work in an entrepreneurial, resource-stretched and fast paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to work independently and take initiative.
Highly resourceful, organized and efficient.
Ability to develop and implement wellness programs and initiatives for children and families.
Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills.
Experience working with GBV and trauma counselling.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to do community development work with partner organisations.
Willingness to be involved in extramural activities and school cultural activities.
