A trailer mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of trailers, ensuring they are safe and roadworthy. Trailer mechanics play a vital role in keeping trailers operational, safe, and compliant with regulations, ensuring the smooth and efficient transport of goods.
Responsible for the maintenance, trailer chassis maintenance, repair and refurbishment of trailers, ensuring they are structurally sound, roadworthy, and visually presentable.
Required to adhere to safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies while ensuring accurate record-keeping and efficient execution of repairs.

Matric
Valid drivers license
Minimum 3 years of experience in trailer maintenance and repairs
oo Strong background in axle repairs, braking systems and chassis reinforcements.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
WELDING
:
Reading manuals and blueprints for work to be performed
Casting and bending metal parts
Using power tools and machinery
Welding steel
Assembling and installing boilers
Operating and maintaining boilers
Completing checklists and boiler logs
Adhering to relevant regulations and safety standards
Assist with the maintenance, installations, assist with diagnostics and assist with repairing steel and metal structures per maintenance and breakdown work orders taking into consideration the direct risk of the environment.
Marks off and fabricates structural steel and other metal stock to make or repair metal products and structures.
Joining metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting - must know how to ARC, MIG.
Able to do thin gauge welding.
Shaping and bending sheet metal and structure.
Studying blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements.
Selecting, cleaning, and preparing metal stock
Cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal-cutting machines
Ensure to assist with all other ad hoc duties and transportation of materials and tools.
Comply with disciplinary and behavioural rules and procedures.
Conduct risk assessment in own area of work and within span of control.
Maintain workshop and assets namely work areas, equipment, tools and toolbox.
Perform instructions as per work orders and job cards and comply with Health and Safety regulations.
Complete daily inspection checklists for tools, equipment, vehicles and work areas.
Report problems and make recommendations to Supervisors.
Ensure to keep work area and workshop, material area, tools, equipment, vehicles and work area clean and tidy at all times (good housekeeping).
Comply with safety, health and environmental standards. Identify and report unsafe and hazardous situations in work area. Participate in safety meetings.
Comply with Quality standards and deliver in a manner that support and meet operational quality standards
Maintenance and Repair:
Preventative Maintenance:
Performing routine tasks like oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and other scheduled maintenance to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
Identifying the root cause of mechanical and electrical problems in trailers, using diagnostic tools and equipment.
Component Replacement:
Replacing worn or damaged parts, including brakes, tires, axles, suspensions, lights, and electrical components.
Repair Work:
Fixing issues with various trailer systems, including brakes, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Inspections and Safety:
Safety Inspections:
Conducting thorough inspections of trailers to ensure they meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Compliance:
Ensuring trailers are compliant with all relevant road safety standards and regulations.
Documentation:
Maintaining accurate records of all repairs, maintenance, and inspections performed on trailers.
