Job Vacancy: Welder/Fabricator - Residential Construction (Broederstroom)

Key Duties of a Welder - Residential New Build

Structural Work

Fabrication and installation of reinforced steel

(rebar) for: Foundations Concrete slabs Beams and columns

Cutting and bending of stirrups

and other steel reinforcement as per structural drawings.

Welding and assembly of steel frameworks

where required (e.g., for stairs, balconies, canopies).

Welding Techniques & Execution

Use of

Arc welding (SMAW)

for joining steel components. Ensuring all welds meet

structural integrity standards

and site specifications. Operating welding machinery and maintaining equipment in good working order.

Reading and Interpreting Plans

Reading blueprints, technical drawings, and building plans

to determine material requirements and fabrication techniques. Identifying welding symbols, dimensions, and specifications directly from engineering drawings.

Security and Fixtures

Fabrication and installation of:

Security gates

Burglar bars

for windows

Balustrades

for balconies and staircases Measuring and installing

frames, posts, and brackets

securely and in line with architectural designs.

General Site Duties

Marking out and preparing materials

before fabrication. Ensuring all work areas are kept

clean, safe, and compliant

with health and safety regulations.

Coordinating with site supervisors, builders, and engineers

to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.

Quality Control & Safety

Conducting

visual and physical inspections

of welds. Adhering to

site safety protocols

and wearing appropriate

PPE

(Personal Protective Equipment). Ensuring work complies with

SANS

and

building code requirements

.

Skills & Requirements

Ability to read and interpret

engineering and architectural drawings

. Skilled in

cutting, grinding, fitting, and welding

. Knowledge of

building regulations

, especially around

reinforced concrete and steel

. Attention to detail and commitment to

quality workmanship

.

Key Responsibilities:

Fabricate and install

gates

,

balustrades

,

burglar bars

, and

steel structures

Work with

mild steel

,

stainless steel

, and other metals Perform

on-site installations

and ensure structural accuracy and alignment Operate welding tools and machinery (MIG, TIG, arc welding) Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and fabrication plans Conduct quality checks to meet safety and design standards Collaborate with the building team to meet project deadlines
Requirements:

Minimum 3 years' experience as a

welder/fabricator

in construction Strong fabrication skills and attention to detail Ability to

work independently on-site

Experience with

residential metalwork installations

Must have own transport or reliable travel arrangements Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather Basic tools and welding equipment (advantageous)
