Job Description

Key Role and Responsibilities



The welder is responsible for performing various welding tasks, ensuring high-quality welding work in line with the company's engineering standards and international certifications, specifically ISO14001 (Environmental Management), ISO9001 (Quality Management), and ISO45001 (Occupational Health & Safety). This role requires the welder to contribute to safe operations, quality production, and sustainable practices.

Role / Responsibility / Activity



Welding Operations:



Perform welding operations, including arc welding, MIG, TIG, and other techniques, according to project specifications. Set up welding machines based on the job at hand or using a welding procedure specification (WPS). Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine appropriate welding processes. Repair equipment and structures by welding or fabricating new parts as necessary.

Quality Control:



Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards, tolerances, and specifications. Perform visual and measurement tests on welded components to check for any defects or issues. Maintain a high standard of work and ensure that welding tasks align with ISO9001 quality standards.

Safety & Compliance:



Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during operations. Ensure all work is done in accordance with ISO45001 health and safety regulations. Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards in the workplace. Adhere to hot work permits and other welding safety standards.

Environmental Responsibility:



Ensure compliance with ISO14001 environmental standards, minimizing the environmental impact of welding operations (e.g., reducing emissions, proper waste disposal). Actively participate in environmental sustainability initiatives in the workplace. Handle hazardous materials safely and in accordance with regulations.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting:



Regularly inspect and maintain welding equipment to ensure optimal functionality. Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning welding tools and machinery. Keep records of maintenance activities in compliance with ISO standards.

Documentation & Reporting:



Keep detailed records of work done, including welding activities, inspections, and repairs. Provide feedback and report any defects, risks, or non-conformance to quality or safety standards.

Qualifications and Education Requirements



What theoretical knowledge/qualifications (e.g. competencies / diploma) does the job require?



Matric Certificate (Grade 12).

Trade Test Certificate in Welding or Boiler making.

Certification in ISO-related training will be advantageous

What experience (e.g. previous exposure) does the job require?



Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in welding in the industrial engineering or manufacturing industry.

Experience working in an ISO-compliant environment (ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001).

Familiarity with different welding techniques and tools.

Strong knowledge of welding techniques and principles.

Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Familiarity with South African engineering standards and regulations.

Leadership and Management skills



Proficiency in MIG, TIG, Arc, and other welding processes.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

Knowledge of occupational health and safety practices.

Problem-solving skills
