is currently seeking a
Village Nurse
to join our team at
The Rathfelder, Riverside, and Fernbridge
. This is a
permanent, full-time
position (Monday to Friday, 07:00 - 16:00), offering an opportunity to work in a caring, resident-centred environment that promotes dignity, well-being, and holistic healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
Resident Care & Clinical Duties
Conduct wellness rounds and monthly health checks for assisted and independent living residents
Complete DQ98 and functionality assessments, welcome assessments for new residents, and post-hospitalisation follow-ups
Provide routine clinical care through scheduled clinics and walk-in services, including wound dressings, injections, and chronic disease support
Administer and manage medication, including TB care and script renewals
Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate ambulance/family liaison
Educate residents on medication and chronic condition management
Maintain accurate and up-to-date digital records (e.g., DigiAge)
Care Planning & Supervision
Collaborate with the Care Manager to create and update personalised care plans
Participate in family and vulnerability meetings, providing clinical input and support
Supervise private carers in the cottages, ensuring care plans are followed and residents are monitored
Provide orientation and support to new caregivers and ensure quality standards are upheld
Clinic Management
Operate clinic services at Rathfelder and manage "Clinic Hour" at Fernbridge
Attend to walk-ins at Riverside (e.g., blood pressure checks, minor procedures, etc.)
Monitor clinic stock and equipment, ensuring proper infection control measures
Ensure all services and consumables are accurately billed and recorded
Health Education & Community Engagement
Organise wellness initiatives such as health days with external providers
Promote health education, preventative care, and resident engagement
Emergency Response
Respond to incidents such as falls and medical emergencies
Provide immediate nursing care and first aid, coordinating further assistance as needed
Be available for emergency standby (after-hours and weekends, as required)
Compliance & Governance
Maintain confidentiality and dignity in all resident interactions
Adhere to organisational policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
Report concerns, suspected abuse, or hazards through appropriate channels
Participate in training, fire drills, and emergency preparedness initiatives
What We're Looking For:
Registered with the
South African Nursing Council (SANC)
as a
Professional Nurse (RN)
Prior experience in community nursing, geriatric care, or a retirement setting
Strong clinical skills, including assessments, care planning, and emergency response
Proficient with digital healthcare systems (e.g.,
DigiAge
)
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
Compassionate, ethical, and resident-focused approach
Able to work independently while collaborating closely with the care team
Flexible and reliable with a commitment to quality care delivery
