Key purpose of role

The incumbent is required to edit and shoot studio links and or overlay for Eyewitness News' television offering. The role requires adequate exposure to a newsroom environment, its deadlines and editorial objectives so as to present content that is of exceptional broadcast quality, visually factual, fair, impartial and completed within the required timeframe.

Key performance areas



Videographer:



Shoot studio links in accordance with the in-house style, ensuring that audio is not compromised and that lights are set according to the preferred standard.

Roll the autocue when required to do so.

Ensure content recorded is transferred to the edit suite and cleaned up of any fluffs, timeously.

Lay a timeline according to the script.

Take delivery of all content required for inserts leaving gaps for later stories.

Use natsound effectively.

Use visuals according to script.

Ensure that audio is not distorted and that levels are consistent throughout the bulletins and or inserts.

Insert name straps and locations with editorial guidance.

Suggest ways in which to tell stories visually where video is limited.

Render and transfer footage to specified location/s.

Effective supervision of company assets.

The role requires ad hoc fieldwork at special or outside broadcasts.

REQUIREMENTS



Minimum required qualification:



Qualification in media, video editing or multimedia.

Experience is working on several systems including Adobe.



Minimum years of experience:



Minimum of 5 years' experience

Proven track record of working in a newsroom.



Additional role requirements:



Bi-lingual (written and spoken) isiZulu and English

Valid driver's license

Proven ability to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment.

Proven ability to adapt to various editing and or newsroom systems.

Able to troubleshoot and think on their feet.

Excellent understanding of the South African media landscape and trends and changes

Needs to be passionate about news and setting the news agenda in the industry

Excellent reading and writing skills in English and isiZulu

Excellent shooting and editing skills.

Team player.

Ability to build and maintain a healthy morale and work environment.

Able to create SOPs and contribute toward streamlining workflows.

Ability to meet strict deadlines.

Have a keen 'news sense'

Applicant needs to be a self-starter, who takes clear instruction and delivers on deadline.

Willing to learn all aspects of EWN.

Ability to work under pressure

Ability to work long hours and prepared to go the extra mile

Ability to be a team player
