Job Description

The Vessel & Yard Planner is responsible for the efficient planning and execution of vessel discharge/load operations and yard space management. This role ensures optimal productivity, vessel stability, and yard integrity while supporting terminal operations. The planner must maintain 100% system integrity, reduce redundant moves, and support a 37 GMPH quay crane operation and a 30-minute truck turn-time.

Job Function:

Vessel Planning:

Prepare and execute vessel discharge and load plans. Ensure vessel file closure within two hours post-operation. Meet vessels on arrival and provide all loading documents and crane sequences. Ensure vessel stability and safety under load/discharge conditions. Maintain timely and accurate documentation in line with SOPs.

Yard Planning:

Develop and implement yard strategy in coordination with the Planning Manager. Allocate yard space by service, vessel, POD, equipment type, and special handling needs. Monitor and fine-tune the terminal operating system to align with yard strategy. Prepare daily yard work plans and workflows for housekeeping, empty movements, and corrections. Nominate empty equipment for shipment as per shipping line instructions. Report weekly on yard density, equipment utilization, and strategy updates

Skills and Competencies:

Technical/Functional:

o In-depth knowledge of container terminal operations, vessel stowage, and yard planning.

o Proficiency in vessel and yard planning systems (e.g., Navis, Trimble, YMS/WMS).

o Strong reporting and data analysis capabilities.

Communication:

o Clear and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Shares knowledge and keeps relevant parties informed.

Anticipates and addresses operational issues proactively. Takes ownership and works independently under pressure

Cost Focused:

Demonstrates cost-consciousness and seeks efficiency improvements. High school diploma or equivalent; Degree or higher in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field will be an advantage. 2-4 years of experience in vessel planning, yard operations, or terminal logistics. Experience in planning, coordinating, or organizing yard activities or operations is preferred. Previous experience in using Yard Management Systems (YMS) or Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) may be required.
Certifications in logistics or yard/vessel planning are advantageous.
