The Supervisor Engineering Boilermaker is accountable for ensuring the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all shaft-related infrastructure. This role oversees and manages shaft conveyances, infrastructure, stations, levels, pump chambers, pipe raises, settlers, service columns, and shaft rehabilitation activities. A key responsibility is to uphold and promote the highest safety standards within their area of operation and influence.




Minimum Requirements:






Grade 12 or equivalent Relevant Recognised Trade Certificate A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Boilermaker, specifically in shaft, conveyance, and related infrastructure maintenance, with at least 2 of those years in a supervisory role Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant's suitability for employment



Key Competencies:






Intermediate operational safety experience with sound appreciation for safety standards and record management Good communication, interpersonal and team leadership skills Knowledge of relevant mining legislation, with emphasis on Electrical Regulations Proven organisation skills - planning, organising, leading, and controlling Proven proficiency in technical problem solving Computer literacy with basic MS Office proficiency Working knowledge of SAP Ability to manage, control and input into the financial budget of the responsible section



Duties and Responsibilities:






Ensure implementation and adherence to the Mine Health & Safety Act and Environmental COP's, policies, procedures and legal requirements within the area of responsibility Maintain and manage health and safety policies, standards, and procedure for section and area of responsibility Convene and participate in sectional health and safety meetings, forums, and campaigns Manage operational risk with the section or area of responsibility and evaluate and monitor compliance to codes of practice Accountable for legal compliance as the Regulation 2.9.2 appointee for the area of responsibility Manage key performance areas of subordinates and ensure subordinates are adequately trained to perform their duties Plan and execute maintenance and repair activities safely and timeously and ensure daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance targets are met Ensure adherence to all Shaft-related standards, regulations, applicable Codes of Practice, and instructions, while initiating corrective actions or escalating issues as necessary Oversee and conduct necessary equipment and installation risk assessments, lockout/tagout procedures, and related activities within your area of responsibility Plan, assign, and oversee the team's daily maintenance and routine activities to ensure safe and standard-compliant execution. Conduct regular Planned Task Observations (PTOs) to assess team performance and provide coaching to enhance overall effectiveness and delivery Plan and carry out Shaft examinations in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and the Mine's Code of Practice Schedule, coordinate, and oversee the planning and execution of maintenance activities for shaft infrastructure, including conveyances, stations, levels, pump chambers, pipe raises, settlers, service columns, and shaft rehabilitation Lead and actively participate in failure investigations involving installations, equipment, components, and related systems, with the aim of implementing or recommending improvements to maintenance and operational practices Engage with OEMs, suppliers, and intermediaries as needed to support investigations and assist in developing effective remediation interventions Input into, formulate and manage annual budgets for the section Perform all duties relevant to the position, including standby, overtime and call-outs
