S & Q Engineering is a respected marine and general engineering company based in Durban, specialising in high-precision fabrication, repairs, and maintenance solutions. We are currently looking for a skilled and dedicated Turner Machinist to join our dynamic workshop team.
Role Overview
As a Turner Machinist, you will operate manual lathes and related workshop machinery to manufacture, repair, or modify precision components. You will work with technical drawings and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver work of the highest engineering standard.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate conventional lathes and milling machines.
Read and interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications.
Machine components to fine tolerances using precision measuring tools.
Perform finishing and deburring work and inspect completed components.
Conduct routine maintenance and ensure machine safety compliance.
Maintain cleanliness and safety in the workshop.
Complete job cards, timesheets, and quality documentation.
Collaborate with fitters, welders, and other artisans on project work.
Report faulty materials, tools, or equipment to supervisors promptly.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Turner Machinist in an engineering environment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and use precision instruments.
Solid understanding of machining principles and workshop safety protocols.
Team player with a problem-solving mindset.
Flexibility to work onsite when required.
High level of attention to detail and workmanship.
