Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Turner trade is responsible for ensuring that a high-quality product is machined in Astec production environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

:

Setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Planning machining interventions by studying works orders, engineering drawings, materials specifications, locations on surfaces and machining parameters/tolerances. Ensuring that all machined components adhere to quality and safety standards imposed by the Company. Using drawings and specifications to machine various components to very close tolerances and fine finishes on the allocated CNC or conventional machine. Machining of various Osborn components to a high degree of accuracy on the relevant CNC or conventional machine. Setting up and machining components on the

assigned

machine, assigned machine center might change from time to time depending on shop loading and requirements. Setting up castings and fabrications for machining and determining machine allowance to ensure clean up. Using cutting tools and cutting data to machine a selection of materials to the required surface finish. Performing general machine maintenance to ensure that the machine remains in high working conditions. Optimizing run time on work performed and ensure adherence to work schedule.

Operating other machinery in the same category when required

. Machining thin-walled fabrications of large dimensions. Machining bearing journals to a pre-determined tolerance. Machining long straight journals parallel and set machine ram to ensure parallel cut. Ensuring that Housekeeping and Health and Safety requirements of the Company are adhered to.

Participate in Lean, 5S and Safety culture

. Scanning route pack and signing off on operations. Ensuring that inspection report is signed. You will be required to perform any additional and lawful duties that might not be listed in the job description, but which fall within your grade or grades below as and when required. Ensuring compliance with QMS standards.

Qualifications:

Qualified Red Seal Turner Machinist (Section 13).

Experience:

At least 10 years' post trade test experience in a heavy engineering environment on a similar machine. Sound knowledge of various materials including all grades of steel, brass bronze and aluminum.

Character:

Reliable individuals with sober habits. Perfectionistic individual with high attention to detail.

Computer Proficiency

:

Exposure to CNC programming - MASTERCAM advantages.

Other:

The ability to read technical/machine drawings, geometric icons with an ability to interpret both first and third angle projections. Must be able to use a variety of measuring instruments. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings. Read and understand SOPs on all machinery. Willing to work shift.
