General Description:
You must monitor the transportation to ensure organizational objectives are met as instructed by management. You will monitor and assist supervisors in managing the detailed transport activities, employee schedules and proactively address scenarios in which there is a delay or shortage of busses. In addition, you must often serve as a point of contact for customers, building relationships and addressing complaints with the Supervisor/ Operational Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Carrying out detailed departure and arrival involving bus checks and routes.
Monitoring pedestrian and vehicle activity within the bus station and preventing conflict within the bus circulation areas and enforcing the use of designated pedestrian routes.
Ensuring buses are authorised and properly parked.
Reporting all operational matters to the Supervisor / Operations Manager
Providing service information and assistance to all current and potential passengers by ensuring the highest standards of customer care.
Maintaining direct contact with drivers in respect of the day-to-day operational matters to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the terminal points.
Monitoring conduct within the terminal points environment to ensure the proper use of facilities and that the security and well- being of passengers is not compromised.
Ensuring a clean and safe environment at all times, identifying any cleaning required and report damage, maintenance, customer queries and complaints or other problems to be immediately reported to the Supervisor / Operations Manager.
Participating in any training and development activities in order to maintain own professional development or to enhance competence within job role.
Provide daily regulation of assigned drivers and monitors to ensure proper and consistent performance of duties.
Allocating driver assignments/ trips under the instruction of a Supervisor
Ensuring compliance with safety standards
Ensuing vehicles assigned are maintained and in top working order (Conduct Spot Checks)
Assist Supervisors in evaluating the performance of drivers for the purpose of ensuring that basic skills levels are met and are in compliance with company requirements
Conducting daily vehicle and driver inspections and reporting findings to supervisors for documentation
Ensure the trip schedule is verified if unclear
Oversee that drivers conduct proper wheelchair securement and assistance for special needs passengers in accordance with company requirements
Drive buses of varying sizes and complexity over designated routes in accordance with time schedules when instructed
Assist in conducting field investigations and report in accordance with company requirements
Assist Supervisors as required and to perform the work of Supervisor in the Supervisor's absence.
Perform other duties as assigned
Assist in regulating and enforcing the company rules on ground level is a manner that is consistent and unbiased
Knowledge, skills, and requirements:
Highly organized analytical thinker with good oral and written communication skills
Must be a well-mannered leader, with an ability in dealing with employees, management and customers to ensure maximum satisfaction from each by communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
Reading and understanding codes, laws, regulations and policies
Clear understanding of ISO 9000, OHSA, BCEA, SARPBAC and Company Policies and Procedures and the ability to read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Principles methods and procedures related to a large student and passenger transportation system
Principles and practices of supervision of staff
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others and display interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Advise supervisors of incidents so that they can conduct the investigations of accidents and incidents relating to the disciplinary code
Maintain accurate records and comply with the document control policy within HGTS
Assist in coordinating and conduct bus driver training and safety programs with the Supervisors/ Ops Manager
Observe safe, legal and defensive driving practices and methods
Attend meetings and remain current concerning rules, regulations, policies and laws
Previous experience relevant to the post and professionalism
Education / Experience:
Experience driving code 10/ 14 busses
Sound knowledge of transport operations demands
Proven track record in scheduling and managing others
Previous driving experience and knowledge of passenger vehicles
Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks at once and meet deadlines under pressure
Effective communication and leadership skills
