MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

This role oversees and manages the complex process of organ donation and transplantation, ensuring that it is conducted ethically, professionally, and in a manner that respects the wishes of donors and their families while saving and improving the lives of transplant recipients

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Donor Evaluation and Co-ordination: Assess potential organ donors for eligibility, suitability, and medical history. Co-ordinate with hospitals, medical teams, and organ procurement organisations (OPOs) to facilitate the donation process
  • Communication and Liaison: Act as a central point of contact between various stakeholders, including donor families, transplant centres, medical staff, and regulatory bodies. Maintain clear and effective communication throughout the donation and transplantation process
  • Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate documentation of donor information, consent forms, medical records, and other relevant documentation. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to organ donation and transplantation
  • Support and Education: Provide guidance, support, and education to donor families regarding the donation process, answering their questions, and offering emotional support during a difficult time. Conduct educational programs to raise awareness about organ donation and transplantation
  • Logistics and Coordination: Co-ordinate the logistical aspects of organ recovery, transportation, and transplantation. Ensure timely and safe transportation of organs to designated transplant centres
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of quality, safety, and ethical practices throughout the donation and transplantation process. Follow established protocols to ensure the proper handling and transplantation of organs
REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
  • Diploma in General Nursing / B Cur Degree with Critical Care diploma
  • BLS and ACLS certification

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
  • 3 - 5 years experience in critical care, transplantation or organ procurement

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Basic Life Support trained (ACLS, ATLS, PALS training for specialised wards)
  • Computer skills (MS Office suite)
  • Counselling skills
  • Patient assessment skills

  • Risk assessment
  • Scientific nursing process
  • Stakeholder management
