Design of overhead power lines including conductor selection, structure placement, and routing optimization for voltages of 132kV, 220kV, 275kV, 400kV and/or 765kV.
Conduct field surveys and feasibility studies for new line construction and existing line modifications
Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and construction documentation
Coordinate with environmental, permitting, and right-of-way teams for project development
Perform load flow analysis and voltage regulation studies
Inspect existing transmission and distribution lines for maintenance requirements
Investigate and analyze line outages, equipment failures, and protection system operations
Ensure compliance with industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NERC) and company safety procedures
Collaborate with construction crews and contractors during line installation and maintenance
Develop cost estimates and project schedules for line projects
Review and approve as-built drawings and documentation
Participate in emergency response and system restoration activities
Education, Language & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Professional Registration (Pr. Eng or Pr.Tech Eng) preferred
Experience
5-10 years of experience in transmission/distribution line engineering
Proficiency in power system analysis software (PSS/E, ETAP, SKM, PLSCADD, DigSILENT, etc.)
Experience with renewable energy design, implementation and/or integration
Knowledge
Knowledge of electrical codes and standards (ESKOM, NESC, IEEE, NERC, CIGRE, etc.)
Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, and relevant engineering design software
