As the Training Officer in Engineering, you will be responsible for executing training plans, facilitating learning and development interventions and the development of Unit Standards based training material that complies with appropriate legislations.

Performance & Delivery

  • Oversees the development of curriculum for operational training programs to be delivered across the respective area of responsibility
  • Conduct training needs analysis for the business area in conjunction with line managers, including the budgeting process and cost control for the defined area of responsibility
  • Manages all aspects of record keeping (ensure records are maintained and updated on the Learning system) and reporting to ensure corporate and statutory requirements are met and best practice standards are achieved
  • Assess Learners (inclusive of Interns, Work experience learners and PITs) development progress against a pre-defined standard, provide feedback regarding performance and ensure re-attendance of courses as required in order to ensure proficiency
  • Proactively identifies, coordinate and lead improvement in systems and services
  • Leads the respective operational disciplines in all Skills Development Functions and responsibilities to deliver towards the WSP and ATR whilst meeting legislative requirements
  • Implement and achieve agreed upon strategic objectives to meet Operational KPIs
  • Conducting of scheduled on-the-job training, coaching, assessment and provide feedback into the Learning system for reporting and analysis
  • Follow assessment methodologies and conduct assessments as per ISO standards and company MQA Policies
  • Take ownership for end-to-end learning experience to provide a positive learning experience in which learners are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process and achieve learning goals
  • Provide input for the compilation of the WSP/ATR, Human Resource Development SLP elements, Mining Charter and BBBEE
  • Participate in the budgeting process for area of responsibility
  • Support in the development of mine specific procedures and process flows relating to the provision of training interventions
  • Ensure Learner progress reports are maintained and up to date in support of Discretionary grants to be submitted timeously and in compliance with prescribed MQA requirements
  • Ensure training programmes and processes comply with ISO 9001/2015 certification standards, SETA requirements and organisational guidelines, through liaison with CTC, the MQA and Central Training
  • Ensure preparation and facilitation of training audits on the mine i.e.: DMR, MQA and ISO9001:2015
  • Serve as subject matter expert in support of the Central Training team during the online development of training content and assessment
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system with the HR Function and the operational departments
  • Attend internal and external stakeholder meetings, provide feedback and implement actions when required
  • Ensure facilitation of the recruitment and administration of trainees and on-the-job training
  • Ensure that training content for both face-to-face and e-learning meet instructional design requirements
This role is in the Human Resource Department and is at a C4 level reporting to the Training Manager.

Qualifications
  • Engineering Trade within applicable Discipline
  • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (NQF level 4) - minimum
  • OTDETP - NQF level 5 (or Training related certificate) - minimum
  • National HR Diploma (NQF level 6) - advantage
  • ISO 9001:2015 Auditor - advantage
  • Assessor certificate (MQA registered - advantage)
  • Moderator certificate (MQA registered - advantage)
Experience:
  • Extensive experience as a Training personnel for workshops, plant, and pit Engineering
  • At least 5 years relevant experience as an artisan
  • Budgeting process (advantage)
  • SLP; WSP/ATR reporting
  • ISO 9001:2015 Audit experience
  • Engineering Foreman experience - advantageous
