We have an exciting in-office opportunity for a dynamic, Mid-weight Trade Marketing Manager/Coordinator to support and assist the Marketing Department at a leading manufacturer in the decor hardware sector based in Cape Town's Northern Suburbs.
We're on the hunt for a highly motivated and results-oriented Trade Marketing Manager/Coordinator to develop and implement Trade Marketing strategies that drive brand performance and sales growth across key retail and professional channels.
This role reports to Marketing Manager/Key Account Brand Manager, and collaborates between Marketing and Sales, ensuring brand alignment in the market while enhancing in-store visibility and promotional impact.

Responsibilities
Trade Marketing Strategy Development

  • Develop and execute trade marketing strategies to drive brand awareness, product availability and sales growth.
  • Align trade marketing plans with the overall business and marketing strategy.
Retail & Channel Management
  • Together with Sales, work closely with retailers and other trade partners to build and maintain strong relationships, retail channel support and joint marketing ventures.
  • Identify key trade opportunities and develop plans to optimise sales across all channels.
Promotions & Campaigns
  • Plan and implement trade promotions, in-store promotions, sales campaigns, CRM or incentive programmes, time-limited deals (product price), competitions and seasonal promotions to drive customer engagement and sales.
  • Create in-store displays and point-of-sale (POS) materials, gifting, signage and merchandising strategies to encourage retailers to stock, promote and sell more of our products, driving sales, building relationships and improve brand visibility in their stores.
  • Manage co-op advertising and explore other retailer collaborations and sell-in and sell-out initiatives.
  • Support retailers' digital campaigns and e-commerce platforms.
  • Manage and coordinate trade events, exhibitions (custom vs shell scheme, national / regional / provincial), golf days, activations, in-store activities and product demonstrations and support new product launches to maximise brand visibility.
Bespoke Products & Colour Solutions
  • Plan and implement bespoke products and colour solutions such as House Brands / Private Label / Exclusive Brands that are aligned with business objectives.
Market Analysis & Insights
  • Track the successful implementation of collateral and analyse trade and market data to assess the performance of trade activities and promotions.
  • Conduct regular store visits and research market trends, customer needs and competitor activity to identify opportunities and adjust strategies.
Brand Consistency
  • Ensure consistency in brand messaging, positioning, and visual identity across all trade channels.
  • Liaise with the brand marketing team to ensure artwork and specification alignment.
Sales Support
  • Provide training and support to the sales teams on trade marketing initiatives, product features and promotional strategies.
  • Assist the sales team by providing them with effective marketing collateral.
Budget Management
  • Develop and manage the trade marketing budget to ensure efficient use of resources and evaluate ROI effectiveness.
Collaboration
  • Work cross-functionally with sales and marketing to ensure effective execution of trade marketing initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the supply chain team to ensure that products are available for trade promotions and seasonal campaigns.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have/be:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field (a postgraduate qualification is a plus).
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in trade marketing (FMCG or consumer goods industry preferred).
  • Proven ability to develop and execute successful trade marketing strategies and sales channel collaboration.
  • Experience in managing retail relationships and working with channel partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and CRM/trade marketing platforms.
  • Knowledge and experience with category management and shopper marketing - preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the South African retail landscape and customer behaviours in the paint industry - preferred.
  • Client-service oriented, enthusiastic and friendly, however, with strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - written, verbal and presentation.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with sales, marketing and supply chain
  • teams.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for brand development with strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive self-starter with good problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills to interpret data and generate insights.
  • Excellent project management and organisational abilities to multitask in a fast-paced environment with adherence to timelines, balancing short-term tasks against long-term goals.
  • Comfortable managing budgets and delivering on ROI.
