Job Description

Client based in Roodepoort is seeking a skilled and qualified Toolmaker with specialized experience in Tool and Die making for the casting industry.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of metal casting processes and the precision tooling required to support high-quality component production. The role involves building, modifying, maintaining, and repairing tooling and dies used in casting operations.
Minimum Requirements: Qualified Toolmaker (Red Seal or Trade-Tested Certification essential)
Minimum 5 years of tool and die making experience, specifically within the casting industry
Experience working on Edgecam
Solid understanding of different casting processes (e.g., gravity, sand, die casting)
Skilled in conventional and CNC machining processes
Experience with heat treatment and material hardness specifications
Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and CAD files
Desirable Skills: Experience with 3D CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Edgecam)
Basic welding and fabrication skills
Understanding of mold flow and die cooling systems
Strong problem-solving and fault-finding ability
Able to work independently and within a team
Strong attention to detail and quality orientation
Familiar with measuring instruments such as micrometres, verniers, and gauges
Key Responsibilities: Manufacture, assemble, fit, and maintain dies, tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges used in casting production.
Interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and specifications to ensure precise fabrication.
Use a variety of machining methods and equipment, including lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, and EDM (electrical discharge machines).
Troubleshoot and repair tooling defects to minimize production downtime.
Perform die modifications and improvements to meet quality and operational standards.
Conduct tool and die testing to ensure alignment with product specifications and casting tolerances.
Apply knowledge of metallurgy and casting materials to tool design and repair.
Maintain accurate records of tool maintenance, repairs, and changeovers.
Uphold high standards of workplace safety, cleanliness, and machine maintenance.
