We are looking for a Therapy Area Head, Cardiovascular & Other Serious Chronic Diseases (CVD & OSCD).

The Position

As the new Therapy Area Head at our CDC-ZA, you will be managing and developing your team accountable for execution of all Novo Nordisk trial programs within CVD & OSCD. Your role involves leading your therapy area unit, achieving important business objectives, and responding quickly to business needs.

Additionally, you will:

  • Develop short- and long-term strategic plans for the assigned Therapy Area within the CDC.
  • Manage the trial portfolio in the assigned Therapy Area, including risk management at the CDC level.
  • Building effective operational model addressing current and future needs for functional team within CDC organisational structure.
  • Collaborating closely with Clinical Medical Regulatory teams and other CDC units to ensure overall CDC compliance of Novo Nordisk processes, local requirements, and trial sites.
  • Driving Therapy Area team operational efficiency and capabilities, talent and people development, and performance management, and managing resources effectively in Therapy Area functional area of CDC.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have a health science degree and be fully proficient in English language.

Additionally, you should meet the following criteria:
  • Demonstrated solid experience in people management within clinical operations - at least 4-5 years of working experience as a Line Manager for multi-functional teams, preferably in the relevant therapeutic areas (CVD & OSCD).
  • Previous experience working in a matrix structure and cross-functional collaboration with other teams, especially medical and regulatory affairs.
  • Proven track record in clinical trial ecosystem of South Africa, with good understanding of clinical quality (audits and inspections) and training. Ideally you had previously worked as a Trial Manager.
  • Strategic and analytical mindset.
  • Strong leadership skills, able to educate and guide a team, drive and implement new processes.
You should also be able to be present in the office 3 days a week on a regular basis and be ready for occasional business trips (maximum 1-2 per month).

The Department

Our Clinical Development Centers, part of the Clinical, Medical and Regulatory Departments, are the backbone in clinical trials and have the benefits of strengthened partnerships and launches. We conduct clinical trials in more than 50 countries around the world, in close collaboration with our affiliates, regions and global teams.

You will be a part of our large, resourceful development team that plays a crucial role in the ambitious drug development programs at Novo Nordisk. Our highly motivated CDC-ZA team is composed of ~60 employees, and you will become a part of the management team, reporting directly to the CDC Head.

Your direct reports will be 4 Trial Managers, 2 Clinical Trial Assistants, and 2 Clinical Operations Managers (CRA Line Managers).
