Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The University of the Western Cape's Centre for Innovative Education and Communication Technologies (CIECT) Department has embarked on an exciting journey of change and transformation, playing an important role in delivering technology services that enable and support the University's goals and objectives. CIECT has identified a growth area within Audio Visual Services. In order to deliver the Centre's strategic initiatives, an opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate, AVS: Technician.
In line with growing its capacity, we invite applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Technician: Audio Visual Services.
Responsibilities will include:
Audio-visual support services, recording and editing of videos and media,
Setting up of equipment in venues,
Setting up of equipment at university events,
Streaming,
Hybrid / Video-conferencing,
Forming partnerships with other team members and liaising with stakeholders,
Adherence to university policies, processes and governance compliance,
Inventory and testing of equipment,
Reporting of obsolete equipment and repairs,
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements
Matric,
At least two years' proven work experience,
knowledge of Audio-Visual Services,
Digital Literacies: Computer Literate (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel),
A valid Driver's License that's two years old,
Willingness to do shift work.
Advantageous
Certification in Audio Visual,
Knowledge of Electrical systems,
Relevant experience in higher education.
Skills and Experience
Strong knowledge or understanding in these key areas would be advantageous:

  • Audio Visual Technologies: Sound Systems, Video Recording and Camera skills (Live & Studio based),
  • Venue Control Systems (Commbox, Crestron etc.) and Projector Maintenance
  • Reporting: Oral and written communication skills
  • Facilitation and Presentation:
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Ability to explain technical terms in non-technical manner
  • Ability to explore emerging technologies and share within team capacity building sessions learn
  • Facilitation and presentation skills
  • People/interpersonal skills
  • Minimum competencies required:
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work across interdisciplinary teams
  • Ability to analyse and resolve problems swiftly using a range of troubleshooting techniques
  • Ability to explore and adapt to new technologies, best practice frameworks in the AV environment
  • Understanding the security and POPIA landscape, especially in relation to the production, sharing and storage of content/material
  • Embracing ethical usage and considerations of media content production
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation within the AV environment
