Job Description

Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) has an exciting opportunity in our Manufacturing department. We are looking for a talented individual with relevant skills and experience for a Technical Trainer role, which is based in Elgin. The successful candidate will report directly to the Unit Manager in Elgin. Key Purpose To provide a specialized and effective training and development service to a designated team, focusing on the acquisition of competence and performance.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Training & Development

  • Design, plan, and deliver technical training programs aligned with plant equipment, technology, and business needs (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems).
  • Facilitate onboarding, refresher, and upskilling sessions for Artisans, Technicians and Operators
  • Promote consistent application of technical SOPs and maintenance practices.
Capability Assessment & Competency Frameworks
  • Conduct skills gap analysis in partnership with Line Managers and L&D.
  • Maintain and update competency matrices for maintenance and technical roles.
  • Support accreditation and certification processes for formal and informal training.
On-the-Job Coaching & Support
  • Provide practical coaching and mentoring in the workshop and on the plant floor.
  • Reinforce best practices in troubleshooting, condition-based maintenance, and fault diagnosis.
  • Support post-training evaluations and feedback loops.
Compliance and Safety Training
  • Ensure technical training supports compliance with safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) standards.
  • Deliver or coordinate statutory training aligned to legal and operational requirements (e.g., LOTO, confined space, electrical safety).
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work closely with the Manufacturing Continuous Improvement and Technical Coach at Head Office to align training strategy and standards.
  • Partner with Training Controllers to integrate technical training into overall learning plans.
  • Support cross-functional training initiatives with Production, Engineering, and QSE teams.
Training Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate training records, lesson plans, assessments, and certification logs.
  • Track training impact through performance metrics and report outcomes to management.
Skills, Experience & Education
Education
  • National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
  • Trade Test (Millwright, Fitter, Electrician) is advantageous
  • Certification in Technical Training, Education, or Learning & Development (preferred)
Experience
  • 3-5 years in a technical role within a manufacturing environment (FMCG/Beverage sector preferred)
  • 2+ years in technical training, mentoring or capability development
  • Experience with modern manufacturing systems, maintenance methods, and technologies
  • Exposure to continuous improvement principles (Lean, TPM, Six Sigma)
Skills
  • Strong technical knowledge of plant equipment, utilities, and automation systems
  • Excellent facilitation and instructional skills (theory and practical)
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and competency-based training
  • Familiarity with digital training tools and LMS platforms
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Data analysis and reporting of training effectiveness
  • SHEQ and compliance training coordination
