Technical Sales Representative Water (jhb Based)

Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE FUNCTION
To promote and sell water-related valve products and solutions to municipal, utility, industrial water, and wastewater clients within the assigned region. The role focuses on understanding water industry regulations, water quality standards, and infrastructure needs to provide technically sound solutions that support sustainable water management. Responsibilities include managing the sales cycle, delivering technical training, maintaining strong client relationships with distributors, contractors and end users, promote valve specification, and achieving sales targets.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Diploma in Business Management
  • Engineering degree (preferably Mechanical or Environmental) advantageous
  • 5-10 years' sales experience in the water industry or related technical products
  • Deep knowledge of water sector valve applications, water quality standards, and regulatory frameworks
  • Proven ability to meet or exceed sales, GP, and EBIT targets
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and customer relationship skills
  • Proficient in CRM, Navision, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to analyze client needs and propose compliant, cost-effective water solutions
  • Experience delivering technical presentations and training to water sector clients
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively to client sites and industry events
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations:
  • Prepare and assist with quotations and tenders, ensuring accurate and compliant submissions via Navision
  • Proactively follow up on outstanding quotations and tenders to maximize conversion rates
  • Liaise closely with QC/QA on water-specific requests and technical specifications
  • Conduct technical product, skills, and pricelist training tailored to water sector clients
  • Maintain up-to-date sales activity reporting through CRM
  • Expand company water client base through direct, indirect, and project channels
  • Effectively service existing and new water sector clients
  • Consistently meet or exceed monthly Sales, GP, and EBIT targets
  • Promote water-specific valve products and solutions to support market penetration
  • Negotiate sales orders and contracts within delegated authority limits
  • Gather and analyze water market intelligence to stay ahead of competitors
  • Provide expert technical recommendations and customized solutions to water customers
  • Oversee delivery, installation, and troubleshooting of valve systems at water sector sites
  • Collaborate with marketing, engineering, and finance teams to develop water-focused value propositions and proposals
  • Travel regularly to client sites, water utilities, trade shows, and industry events as required
  • Maintain customer satisfaction scores above target
  • Follow up on 100% of outstanding quotations and tenders
  • Increase quotation-to-order conversion rate .
  • Deliver minimum number of water-focused training sessions per quarter
  • Maintain 100% CRM data accuracy
  • Achieve monthly and annual sales turnover and GP budgets
  • Ensure timely resolution of after-sales issues
  • Provide quarterly water market and regulatory reports
  • Achieve target number of client visits annually
