Technical Designer & Project Manager – Retail Interior Design Company – Cape Town

Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Job Description

Position: Project Coordinator / Technical Designer
Sector: Retail Roll-Outs
Level: Mid-Level
Location: Paarden Eiland, Cape Town
Salary: R22,000 - R35,000 (based on experience)
Step into a Role That's More Than Just Drawing.
Are you an Interior Designer or Architectural Draughtsperson who's ready to shift gears? This isn't your typical behind-the-screen drafting job. If you're looking to expand into a more hands-on, problem-solving, coordination-focused role, we'd love to hear from you.
We're a well-established design firm in Cape Town with a 30+ year track record of shaping retail spaces for some of the biggest names in fashion, food, and lifestyle across South Africa and beyond. You'll be part of a driven and collaborative team, working closely on the national roll-out programme of a major grocery retail brand.
What You'll Do

  • Translate brand standards into physical spaces across the country.
  • Dive deep into the shopfitting and construction process-understanding how everything fits together from concept to execution.
  • Visit sites regularly-you'll be out in the field, not just behind a desk.
  • Create detailed site reports, flag any design challenges, and provide feedback to your team.
  • Keep the communication lines open with clients, contractors, architects, and shopfitters.
  • Coordinate multiple store fit-outs at once, track drawings, and manage documentation flow.
  • Be ready to jump in with quick drawing revisions when needed (Revit skills essential).
What You Bring
  • A relevant qualification in Interior Design or Architecture (3-year diploma or degree).
  • Solid proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • 2-5 years' experience in retail drafting or a similar role.
  • A natural flair for coordination, communication, and detail.
  • The ability to juggle deadlines, stay organised, and work independently when needed.
  • Flexibility to adapt as projects evolve, and confidence onsite with various stakeholders.
The Extras
  • Annual Leave:
o 15 working days (plus more the longer you stay).
o Approx. 10-day company shutdown in December/January.
  • Annual Bonus:
o Based on company performance and individual contribution.
o Paid in February (aligned with financial year-end).
This Role is for You If...
  • You're technically strong but itching to move beyond drafting into real-world problem-solving.
  • You enjoy fast-paced environments where no two days are the same.
  • You're happy getting your boots dirty on site, not just clicking away at a screen.
  • You're a natural at juggling priorities, building relationships, and keeping projects moving.
Ready to take your next step?
If you're driven, detail-oriented, and ready to roll up your sleeves, we'd love to chat.
