The Team Leader Role

The Determined, Resilient, Empowered, Aids-free, Mentored and Safe (DREAMS) programme provides a comprehensive package of core interventions to address key factors that make adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) particularly vulnerable to HIV. These include structural factors, such as gender-based violence, exclusion from economic opportunities, and a lack of access to secondary school. DREAMS layers multiple interventions at once so that AGYW are surrounded with critical support to keep them safe from HIV and other risks.

The Team Leader position will support and deliver on NACOSAxe2x80x99s USAID funded Community-based Violence Prevention and Linkages to Response in SA Programme. This HIV and GBV Prevention Programme focuses on delivering evidence-based group interventions to adolescent girls and young women and adolescent boys and young men (aged 15-19 and 20-24years). It further focuses on linkages and layering to secondary interventions services such as post violence care services to survivors who disclose, sexual reproductive health services, family strengthening and economic strengthening interventions.

Team Leaders will support the implementation of the No Means No Self-defense intervention, Sexual Reproductive Health, Financial Literacy, linkages and layering as well as mentoring intervention in 6 Health Sub-Districts of the Cape Metro.

The duties and responsibilities of the Team Leader will include, but not limited to:

  • Support the Program Coordinator to lead the team to implement and execute targeted demand creations, mobilization, recruitment and enrolment activities.
  • Plan and execute weekly facilitation of EBIs to relevant target populations by community facilitators.
  • Support the Program Coordinator in safe space and stakeholder/partner mapping, maintenance of a database of stakeholders and their services/focus areas (DREAMS and non-DREAMS partners), support successful referrals and bi-directional linkages of DREAMS primary and secondary interventions.
  • Perform first line data completeness checks and submit data on behalf of the team; assist Program Coordinator to collect team output data for the compilation of reports.
  • Support Team Planning and assist to submit individual team member plans to the Program Officer on a weekly basis; submit requests for procurement and logistics on behalf of the team; record and track stock/equipment issued to the team.
Required qualifications, skills and experience
  • Post Matric Qualification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 yearsxe2x80x99 experience in leading direct implementation teams working in the HIV prevention field in a target driven program.
  • Related work experience in the health and social development sectors, and preferably in the field of AGYW and/or survivors of sexual violence advantageous.
  • Experience in direct implementation planning, logistical support and basic data collection/completeness checks is important.
  • Well established community/stakeholder relationship building track record/ability to network and navigate communities.
  • Knowledge about: HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health; HIV Testing Services; GBV programming; evidence-informed and rights-based programming for survivors of GBV, particularly for adolescent girls and young women.
  • Excellent communications skills in English and any other South African Language.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, person centered; possess leadership skills and qualities and be proactive.
  • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with experience of web-based data systems
  • Driverxe2x80x99s license non-negotiable.
