Job Description

Midrand Christian College, situated within the South African educational landscape, seeks a dedicated and passionate FET (Further Education and Training) Phase Educator to cultivate a supportive and engaging learning environment where students are guided, motivated, and inspired to achieve their full academic potential and successfully transition to their post-secondary endeavours.

This role requires an individual committed to providing future-oriented instruction that ignites student motivation, inspiration, and intellectual curiosity in History and Tourism (FET Phase). The successful candidate will serve as a positive role model, consistently demonstrating strong moral principles, ethical conduct, and professional standards. Furthermore, they will foster and maintain meaningful partnerships with colleagues, parents, guardians, and community members, engaging in positive, respectful, and transparent communication and collaboration with all members of the school community.

Responsibilities:

Academic Delivery:

o Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons for the subject, aligned with the Cambridge curriculum, or equivalence thereof.

o Implement a progressive educational approach that motivates, inspires, and challenges students to think critically and engage with future-oriented concepts relevant to the South African context.

o Effectively integrate technology into teaching and learning to enhance student engagement and understanding.

o Set clear and ambitious learning goals for students and communicate these effectively.

o Maintain an adaptable and reflective teaching practice, utilizing feedback to continuously improve student learning outcomes within the South African educational framework.

o Demonstrate a deep and thorough understanding of the subject content for the subject.

Academic Assessment & Reporting:
o Accurately assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessment methods relevant to the Cambridge standards.

o Provide timely, constructive, and meaningful feedback to students to support their progress.

o Maintain accurate records of student performance and provide comprehensive reports to parents and relevant stakeholders.

o Adjust teaching strategies based on assessment data to meet the diverse learning needs of students.

Student Behaviour Management:
o Establish and maintain a positive and disciplined classroom environment conducive to learning

o Implement the school's behaviour management policies effectively and consistently.

o Foster a culture of respect, responsibility, and self-discipline among students.

o Address student behaviour issues fairly and effectively, seeking support from relevant colleagues when necessary.

School Brand Ambassador:
o Act as a positive representative of the school, upholding its values and ethos .

o Contribute to the positive image and reputation of the school within the wider community.

o Participate in school events and activities as required.

o Be open and willing to contribute to our Christ-Centred Education.

Administrative Tasks:
o Fulfil administrative responsibilities efficiently and accurately, including attendance records, lesson planning, and report writing, adhering to educational administrative norms.

o Adhere to school policies and procedures.

o Collaborate effectively with administrative staff.

Health & Safety:
o Ensure the health and safety of students in the classroom and during school-related activities, adhering to safety regulations.

o Adhere to all school safety regulations and procedures.

o Report any safety concerns promptly.

Collaboration & Communication:
o Build and sustain productive, ongoing relationships with colleagues, parents, guardians, and community stakeholders of the school

o Communicate and collaborate effectively, respectfully, and with an open mind with all members of the learning community.

o Participate actively in team meetings, professional development relevant to Cambridge and others, as required by the educational landscape, and school-wide initiatives.

Professional Conduct:
o Consistently uphold the highest standards of character, integrity, and professional conduct, adhering to the SACE Code of Professional Ethics.

o Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching practice and subject knowledge.

Job Specification:

Essential Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:

A relevant Bachelor's degree /PGCE at NQF level 7 Current valid registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE). A satisfactory police clearance certificate. Strong digital literacy and demonstrated ability to effectively integrate technology into teaching and learning. Proven capacity to set clear and ambitious learning goals for students. Demonstrable experience in implementing an adaptable and reflective teaching practice, utilizing feedback to improve student learning. A deep and thorough understanding of the subject content for History and Tourism at the FET level. Proven ability to accurately assess student learning and adjust teaching strategies to meet diverse needs. Exceptional organisational and planning skills. A minimum of 3 years of experience working with students in the FET phase of schooling within either a Cambridge school or a private school environment. Valid work permit to work in South Africa (for Non South Africans).
Desirable Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:

Familiarity with and experience teaching the Cambridge curriculum, or an equivalence thereof. Prior experience in a high-achieving international or private school setting within South Africa. A university degree with a majors in the Subject
