Introduction

A vacancy exists for a Tax Manager (South Africa), reporting to the Group Tax Manager with a primary objective to ensure Southern African tax requirements are fully complied with and to assist the business with input regarding tax law and tax-related accounting.

The Tax Manager (SA) will be responsible for managing a team of three.

Critical Outputs

  • Manage the direct and indirect tax matters (including VAT, PAYE and Income Tax) for the Southern African business, including preparation and submission of VAT and Income Tax returns and all related payments.
  • Provide tax advice to the business on all compliance related tax matters.
  • Investigate and assess tax implications of all group structure changes, including acquisitions and disposals of investments.
  • Ensure accurate accounting of tax balances, including deferred tax, in accordance with IFRS and tax legislation in the Southern African business.
  • Assessment and management of tax risk associated with business processes, in particular VAT.
  • Understand and implement (where applicable) legislative tax changes in conjunction with the Group Tax Manager.
  • Liaise with the relevant tax authority, auditors and regulatory bodies as required on tax matters and ensure that a good relationship with SARS LBC is maintained.
  • Forecasting tax liabilities for budget purposes.
  • Run with the interim and year end tax processes and liaising with external auditors on all tax audit related matters including preparation of tax notes for the annual financial statements.
Requirements
  • CA(SA) (recently qualified or 1-2 years experience).
  • 3-5 years' experience in a managerial role.
  • Extensive knowledge of tax accounting, including IAS12, tax compliance and all types of tax returns.
  • Good understanding of company tax compliance requirements and an understanding of managing tax risks in systems and processes.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word) and SAP.
  • Knowledge of tax administration software (Greatsoft and E-filing) will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in group consolidations and financial statements will be an advantage.
