Tax Consultant




(Permanent position)





The Tax Consultant will be responsible for end-to-end Taxation functioning for the Africa branches, that include Direct Tax compliance and litigation support, Indirect Tax compliance, finance, accounts and audit, as well as statutory compliance across judiciaries, authorities and locations. Through their in-depth working knowledge and practice of tax principles, the incumbent will ensure timeous delivery on critical tasks, projects and submissions. In addition, they will need to perform managerial duties, maintain and strengthen productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, striving towards synergy, efficiency, and business optimization across Africa and Group.



The Tax Consultant will be reporting to the Finance Director, Africa. This post is based at Goodwood.


Principal Accountabilities:



Tax Compliance




Direct Tax compliance and litigation support:

preparation, review and filing of corporate tax returns and Advance tax calculations, Withholding Tax, Tax Clearance Certificates, end-to-end liaison with judicial authorities and submissions preparations, transfer pricing related advisory and analytical documentation servicing, as well as ensuring timeous completion of tax related audits.

Indirect Tax compliance (Service tax, Value Added Tax/Central Sales Tax and Central exercise):

obtaining registrations, approvals, TIN, etc. from regulatory authorities, filling periodic returns, refund claims and replying to notices.

Finance, accounts & audit:

preparation of schedules for assessments, tax notes and schedules for Group reporting, ensuring up-to-date tax accounts and reconciled local assessments, reconciling pending matters as well as performing internal audits where required.

Statutory compliance:

Direct Tax returns submission and filing as well as provisional payments and returns, Indirect Tax filing, tax clearance certificates and business license renewals are all actioned in a timely manner.

Stakeholder Relations




Collaboration with internal stakeholders:

reviewing systems and processes to enhance efficiency and interdivisional teamwork, project management and effective change implementation

Building and reinforcing relationships between Africa branches:

timeous completion of projects, upholding synergy across content and technologies shared.

Group Finance, Tax, Compliance and Legal:

adhering to administrative, compliance and financial processes as stipulated by OUP group requirements

Strengthening productive relations with external stakeholders:

striving towards optimized business processes with Auditors, Accountants, financial consultants and Attorneys, and completed audits within deadlines set.

Employee Management and Motivation




Evaluate structure and resourcing levels and recruit talented employees. Identify training needs and implement development plans. Manage performance, discipline, and employee relations.

Ethical, Regulatory and Legal Risk Management




Adhere to OUP ethical policies, procedures and codes of conduct


Qualifications and Experience




A bachelor's degree or equivalent (NQF 7) Commerce, Finance or Accounting Further studies confirming Tax specialisation Minimum of 5 years' working experience in Taxation (Direct & Indirect) including transfer pricing, Company law, general commercial agreements within a global organisation. This includes tax preparation and filling. Minimum of 5 years' working experience in statutory compliance and tax at a senior level, demonstrating strategic Tax planning and financial acumen Minimum of 2 years' managerial experience in a Finance environment Proven experience in strong functional, analytical and execution capabilities in Finance, Accounts, and Tax domains.
