Sander / Finisher

, you will be the final guardian of quality, responsible for giving our laminated boards their flawless, showroom-ready finish. This is a hands-on, detail-driven role that ensures every board meets Shaper X's exacting standards before reaching riders.

Key Responsibilities

Sand and finish laminated surfboards to meet factory QC (Quality Check) standards--both matte and gloss finishes as specified. Feather rails, noses, and tails to create a seamless finish, without altering board dimensions. Detect and correct surface imperfections such as resin bumps or weave marks prior to polishing. Operate orbital and pad sanders, as well as polishing tools, safely and effectively. Keep the sanding workspace organized and clean, adhering to best safety practices including PPE usage. Coordinate closely with laminators and the QC (Quality Control) team to maintain smooth production flow. Hit daily and weekly output goals without compromising cosmetic quality. Follow all company safety protocols and workshop rules.

Qualifications (Desirable)

Previous experience in surfboard finishing is highly valued. Experience with gloss coats, polishing to showroom standards and minor resin touch-ups or colour matching. Trade qualifications, technical training in composites, or sanding/finishing certifications (not essential but a plus).

Business Skills / Knowledge

Understanding of production workflows in surfboard manufacturing. Ability to work within a team to meet schedule demands and ensure high finish quality. Familiarity with quality control metrics and documentation practices.

Industry Skills / Knowledge

Hands-on experience with fiberglass or composite sanding and finishing. Mastery of power sanders and polishers tailored to surfboard refinement. Knowledge of cosmetic surfboard construction--how resin, fiberglass, gloss, and matte coatings interact. Appreciation for surfboard shaping and design principles. Awareness of industry standards for surfboard surface finish and brand-level expectations.
