Job Description

Role Purpose
A leading mining operation in the Northern Cape is seeking an experienced Superintendent Engineering (Electrical) to ensure the availability, reliability, and optimisation of electrical equipment across plant operations. The role is responsible for managing electrical resources safely and effectively to support production targets, while maintaining compliance with statutory, safety, and operational standards.
Key Performance Areas
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Engineering Operations
Ensure optimal availability and reliability of electrical plant and fleet equipment
Oversee electrical maintenance, breakdowns, and planned work execution
Ensure compliance with statutory, operational, and maintenance standards
Improvement & Optimisation
Drive continuous improvement and equipment optimisation initiatives
Implement energy efficiency projects, including capacitor banks and power optimisation
Support operational excellence and cost-effective engineering solutions
People Management
Lead, mentor, and supervise electrical teams and artisans
Ensure performance management, skills development, and discipline where required
Foster a strong safety and performance-driven culture
Contractor Management
Manage contractors and service providers to ensure quality, safety, and compliance
Monitor contractor performance against SLAs and site standards
Budget & Cost Control
Manage departmental budgets and control engineering costs
Ensure effective use of resources and cost optimisation
SHERQ
Ensure compliance with Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality standards
Promote safe work practices and ensure legal and safety compliance at all times
Work Ethics
Maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and reporting requirements
Minimum Requirements Qualifications & Experience
Engineering Technical Trade Test with a N4 Engineering certificate
Planned Maintenance Management certificate ( NQF level 5)
Supervisory Certificate/ ARM /equivalent (NQF level 4 - 150 Credits)
MDP/ ARM Management / Leadership Equivalent certificate (NQF level 6) (Advantageous)
Minimum 3 years' supervisory experience as a team leader, project leader, or supervisor within a mining or heavy industry maintenance environment (plant and fleet)
Minimum 5 years' operational experience as a qualified electrical artisan in a mining or heavy industry environment (plant and fleet)
Total minimum experience: 8 years
Equipment & Technical Experience (Essential)
Medium Voltage (MV) reticulation and switching (power reticulation)
Capacitor banks and energy-saving initiatives
Diesel generators and backup power supplies
Electrical fault-finding and protection systems
Electrical building maintenance standards
Other Requirements
Medically fit and able to meet mining medical fitness standards
Valid Code EB/B driver's licence
Legal appointment: 2.6.1 or 2.9.2 in terms of the MHSA
Strong commercial awareness
Sound understanding of policies and procedures
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and reporting skills
Remuneration
Market Related Salary depending on experience
