We deliver infrastructure projects in water, wastewater, transportation, civil and structural engineering, flood protection, and energy including renewables. With headquarters in Ireland, we also operate in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

About the Role

We are seeking a

Structural Project Engineer

to join our growing design team based in South Africa, supporting the delivery of international water and wastewater infrastructure projects across United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and coordination of structural elements for treatment plants, reservoirs, pump stations, and related civil structures. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will ensure that all structural designs meet project, safety, and quality standards while contributing to innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.

This position offers an opportunity to collaborate with Nicholas O'Dwyer's global engineering teams, gain exposure to major infrastructure programmes, and contribute to projects that have a real environmental and community impact.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare and deliver structural designs for reinforced concrete, steel, and masonry structures related to international water and wastewater infrastructure (e.g. tanks, process buildings, intake structures, reservoirs). Undertake concept, preliminary, and detailed design, including structural analysis, design reports, and calculation packages. Ensure compliance with Eurocodes, BS Standards, and international best practice. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, process, mechanical, and electrical engineers, to ensure design integration. Support the preparation of design deliverables, including drawings, specifications, and tender documentation. Provide technical support during procurement and construction, including responding to technical queries and reviewing contractor submissions. Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering exercises to optimise design efficiency and buildability. Contribute to project planning and delivery, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule targets are achieved. Engage with clients, project partners, and internal teams across multiple countries. Mentor and support the development of graduate engineers and CAD technicians within the team. Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation within the project team.

Key Requirements

Bachelor's degree in civil or Structural Engineering (BEng/BSc). ECSA registration or eligibility for PrEng/PrTechEng registration.

5-8 years' post-graduate experience

in structural design and project delivery. Demonstrated experience in reinforced concrete and structural steel design, preferably for water or infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of Eurocodes, BS codes, and international design standards. Proficiency in structural analysis and modelling software (e.g. Robot, Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Tedds, or similar). Ability to work effectively within international, multidisciplinary design teams. Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple project interfaces. Understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and site practices. Commitment to quality, safety, and sustainability in design. Flexibility to collaborate across time zones and communicate effectively with global colleagues and clients. You will have an agile and "Can Do" mindset.
