Position Overview:
Our client is looking for a seasoned Strategic Remuneration Specialist to join their team on an 18-month contract basis. This role is ideal for a confident, influential professional with deep expertise in executive compensation, reward strategy, and governance. The successful candidate will operate at the highest levels of the organisation, including direct engagement with the Remuneration Committee (REMCO), to shape and implement forward-thinking remuneration frameworks that align with business goals and shareholder expectations.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead advisor to REMCO, providing strategic input on executive pay, incentive structures, and governance.
  • Oversee and Co-design the total reward strategies that attract, retain, and motivate top talent.
  • Conduct benchmarking and market analysis to ensure competitive and equitable compensation practices.
  • Review and approve short- and long-term incentive plans, including performance metrics and payout scenarios.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices in remuneration governance.
  • Collaborate with HR,
, Legal, and external advisors to support remuneration reporting and disclosures. * Prepare and present high-impact reports and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board.
Experience:
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in remuneration, reward, or compensation & benefits, with at least 5 years at a strategic or executive level.
  • Proven track record of operating at REMCO or Board level.
  • Strong understanding of executive compensation, incentive design, and governance frameworks.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills; able to challenge and guide senior leaders with confidence.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into strategic insights.
Academic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree (essential): Typically, in one of the following fields:
  • Human Resources Management
  • Finance or
  • Business Administration
  • Economics or Industrial Psychology
  • Postgraduate Degree (highly advantageous):
  • MBA (Master of Business Administration)
  • Master's in Human Resource Management or Organizational Development
  • Master's in Finance or Corporate Governance
Must have!! Professional Certifications: * Global Remuneration Professional (GRP)
Added advantage: * Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)
  • Chartered Reward Specialist
  • Certified
(IoDSA) * Executive Compensation Certificate
Bonus Skills & Knowledge:
  • Deep understanding of King IV principles (South African corporate governance framework)
  • Familiarity with IFRS and remuneration disclosure requirements
  • Strong grasp of shareholder engagement and proxy advisory firm expectations
