RPO Recruitment's Client is urgently seeking the expertise of an Strata Controller in the Northern Cape. The successful candidate will monitor and manage ground stability in underground or open-cut mining operations. You will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and structural integrity of mine workings through geotechnical assessments, monitoring, and control strategies.
Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular inspections of underground or surface operations to assess ground conditions, documenting observations and verifying ground support installations meet site standards.
• Monitor strata behaviour using visual inspections and instrumentation to detect signs of deformation or failure, and recommend preventative actions
• Implement and manage ground support systems such as bolting, mesh, and shotcrete, ensuring proper installation and performance through testing and inspection.
• Collect and analyse geotechnical data through mapping, logging, and instrumentation to support ongoing risk assessments and maintain accurate records.
• Assist in the design and execution of safe excavation and support plans, providing input on layout and support requirements based on site-specific geotechnical conditions.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, inspections, and risk assessments to support operational planning and safety compliance.
• Communicate ground control issues effectively to operations teams, offering guidance and delivering training on hazard recognition and response procedures.
• Liaise with engineers, geologists, and safety personnel to ensure integrated ground control practices aligned with production and compliance objectives.
• Support incident investigations related to ground movement or instability, conducting root cause analysis and contributing to safety improvements.
• Ensure all strata control practices and reporting are fully compliant with DMRE regulations and contribute to statutory reporting and audit readiness

Requirements:

• Degree or Diploma in Geology
• 3-5 years Strata Control experience in a mining environment.
