Introduction
The Horticulture Assistant supports the daily operations of the store focused on selling plants and flowers. This role involves maintaining the health and appearance of live plant stock and ensuring a clean, organized, and visually appealing retail space.
Job description
Key Responsibilities:
Watering, pruning, and general care of indoor plants and flowers
Monitoring plant health and removing any damaged or unsellable stock
Assisting with stock rotation, pricing, and unpacking plant deliveries
Creating and maintaining attractive plant displays
Advising customers on basic plant care and suitable plant choices
Keeping the shop floor clean, tidy, and in line with health and safety standards
Supporting day-to-day store tasks as required
This role involves hands-on work with plants, direct customer interaction, and attention to detail to help maintain high product quality and an enjoyable shopping experience.
Minimum requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Basic knowledge of plant care (e.g. watering, pruning, identifying common plant issues)
Interest in horticulture, gardening, or working with plants
Good level of physical fitness - able to lift, carry, and move stock
Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
Strong attention to detail and cleanliness in maintaining plant displays
Good communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues
Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
Preferred but not essential:
Previous experience in a retail or horticulture-related environment
Familiarity with seasonal plants and flowers
Basic understanding of health and safety practices
