We are seeking a highly driven, energetic, and results-focused Steel Buyer to join a growing procurement team. This is hands-on, fast-paced role where only individuals who thrive under pressure and consistently deliver results will succeed

The ideal candidate must have a solid understanding of the steel market, be analytically sharp, highly motivated, and relentless in the pursuit of cost savings, supply chain optimization, and stock efficiency. This is not a role for clock-watchers or low-energy individuals. We're looking for a go-getter with a proactive mindset who takes initiative, thrives in a team environment, and chases performance daily

Key Responsibilities

Source and procure a range of steel products and consumables based on company demand and market conditions

Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms with suppliers to maximize value while maintaining quality and service standards

Continuously monitor market trends, pricing, and mill rolling schedules to make informed and strategic buying decisions

Maintain and monitor purchase orders - ensure accuracy, delivery timing, and cost alignment

Manage daily stock levels, re-order thresholds, and ensure minimum stock-outs across all branches

Control inbound logistics and supplier deliveries, ensuring on-time arrival of critical stock items

Collaborate with internal sales and branch teams to fulfil material requests and cost queries timeously

Resolve supplier issues (pricing, delivery, quality, invoice disputes) professionally and efficiently

Build and maintain a database of trusted suppliers, ensuring robust alternative sourcing where necessary

Required Skills and Attributes

Exceptionally energetic and self-motivated

Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills

Highly analytical with a sharp attention to detail

Able to multitask, prioritize, and deliver under pressure

Commercial awareness and solid understanding of steel grades and specifications

Strong Excel and procurement system capabilities

Minimum Requirements

At least 3 years' experience in procurement, ideally in the steel or manufacturing industry

Strong working knowledge of steel products, grades, sizes, and supply chain dynamics

Proven success in cost management, negotiation, and supplier development

Computer literate - proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, and relevant ERP/purchasing systems

Valid driver's license and own reliable transport
