Location: Cape Town
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Professional Officer: Data Analytics and Reporting to provide specialised technical and operational support to its Informal Trading Programme. This role plays a critical part in strengthening evidence-based decision-making and enhancing service delivery by addressing immediate capacity constraints within AED.
The successful candidate will apply advanced data analytics capabilities to extract, clean, analyse, and interpret complex datasetsprimarily from SAP systemsto improve reporting, streamline operations, and support the ongoing digitisation of the informal trading application process.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Extraction and Preparation

• Extract permit, arrears, and compliance data from SAP modules (ISU, CRM) and other sources.
• Clean, validate, and structure raw data for analysis and reporting.
• Apply data transformation techniques (SQL, DAX, Power Query).
• Identify and resolve data inconsistencies, duplicates, or missing entries.
• Document data extraction and processing workflows for repeatability.

2. Dashboard Development and Maintenance

• Design, build, and maintain user-friendly dashboards to track informal trading KPIs.
• Regularly update dashboards to ensure data currency.
• Optimise dashboards for mobile and desktop accessibility.
• Develop interactive features (filters, visuals) to support AED Heads and operational teams.
• Align all dashboards with Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) Corporate Scorecard metrics.

3. Data Analysis and Insight Generation

• Analyse trends in permit advertisements, applications, approvals, rejections, arrears, and trader distribution.
• Produce standard and ad hoc reports for operational and strategic decision-making.
• Prepare monthly analytical summaries highlighting risks, trends, and performance gaps.
• Provide insights to support evidence-based decision-making within AED.
• Conduct basic forecasting or comparative analysis using historical datasets.

4. Support to Mobile Trading Application System Development

• Work with developers and IT to define data requirements for the digitised mobile application process.
• Assist in mapping and aligning data between SAP and the online application platform.
• Test data accuracy and integration across development phases.
• Prepare datasets for simulations, pilots, and system validation.

5. Operational Support and User Engagement

• Respond to data-related queries from DACs, SPOs, and AED leadership.
• Participate in working sessions and present data insights to stakeholders.
• Train or support internal users in navigating dashboard tools.
• Maintain a tracker of reporting outputs and user requests to improve service responsiveness.

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications

• A relevant Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field with a strong analytics/programming focus.
• A postgraduate qualification in Data Analytics or a related discipline will be advantageous.

Skills & Technical Competencies

• Essential:

• Strong proficiency in SQL (data extraction & transformation).
• Proficiency in Python for automation, processing, and integrations.
• Required:

• Experience with BI tools such as Power BI, SAP Analytics Cloud, or Tableau.
• Highly Advantageous:

• Experience working within SAP environments (ISU, CRM, OData services, SAP HANA).

Experience

• Minimum 5 years relevant experience in data analytics, reporting, or business intelligence roles.
