JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Title: Specialist Product Engineer
Employment Type: 6 months Contract
Work Location: Johannesburg North/Remote
JOB CONTEXT:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Specialist Product Engineer with a strong background in Production Application Support, specifically in Cheques and Pricing applications. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the stability, availability, and performance of critical banking applications related to cheque processing and pricing systems. The engineer will act as a subject matter expert, providing technical leadership and hands-on support to resolve complex production issues, analyze root causes, and implement long-term solutions to prevent recurrence. Key responsibilities include monitoring application health, managing incident and problem resolution, deploying patches and updates, coordinating with development and infrastructure teams, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in supporting high-availability financial applications, strong knowledge of payment systems and pricing engines, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, regulated environment. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset are essential for success in this role.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide production support for COBOL-based applications, including issue investigation and resolution.
• Analyze and troubleshoot system problems, providing timely and efficient fixes.
• Participate in root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions to recurring issues.
• Enhance and maintain legacy COBOL applications to meet evolving business requirements.
• Work collaboratively with QA, business analysts, and other developers to deliver robust solutions.
• This position includes 24/7 standby responsibilities on a rotational basis

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS;

• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Previous experience in an application support role will be an advantage.

PACKAGE & REMUNERATION:

• Compensation will be determined based on qualifications, applicable banking experience, and previous earnings.
