We have an exciting position for a Specialist: Internal Communication who will develop and maintain various communication channels, ensuring that internal communication efforts align with the company's strategic objectives and brand guidelines.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

As a Specialist: Internal Communication you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Ensuring consistency in the application of the Anglo American brand across all internal communications
  • Developing and updating the Kumba website to ensure it reflects current information and aligns with the Anglo American branding
  • Providing relevant content for the Anglo American Group's electronic media platforms, such as the corporate website and social media sites/pages
  • Maintaining the Kumba corporate mailbox and intranet system, ensuring timely and accurate communication within the organization
  • Publishing content using various electronic channels to reach the target audience effectively aligned with governance and editorial policies
  • Overseeing the corporate public displays system, ensuring compliance with relevant governance and editorial policies
  • Managing the corporate interface with the media monitoring agency (NewsClip)
  • Controlling external parties' requests for photo and video shoots for the Kumba Corporate office following the intra-group trademark agreement with Anglo American
  • Overseeing the production of corporate DVDs, including marketing DVDs and specific project-related DVDs
  • Adhering to the Anglo American brand strategy throughout all internal communication initiatives
  • Supporting the advertising strategy, including corporate sponsorships, leveraging opportunities to enhance the brand
  • Managing Kumba's entries for external awards to showcase achievements and enhance the company's reputation and coordinating submission processes
  • Ensuring the discipline adheres to external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) requirements, complies with Anglo American's standards
This role is in the Corporate Affairs department at a Band 6 level reporting to Manager Corporate Communication and Stakeholder Engagement.

Qualifications
  • B-degree in Communication.
  • Advanced Management Program (preferred)
  • Qualification in Project Management (preferred)
  • SA Driver's License.
Experience
  • Proficient level of experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organisation and other key stakeholders
  • Knowledge of Basic financial metrics and budgeting tools
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Identification of new work methods to ensure productive and safe work and achieve plans
  • Monitoring of benchmarks and identification of performance gaps
  • Ability to manage work packages across a portfolio of communication project activities
  • Proficient in leading and managing through crises and times of transformation and change
  • Contracts management for suppliers within the discipline
  • Advanced knowledge of communication management and branding techniques
