Job Description


Role purpose:

Responsible for the providing of technical expertise in transmission networks across Vodacom South Africa regions including:
a.Transmission planning,
b.Optimization and performance management across all transmission mediums (microwave, fibre and leased lines).
Provide expert-level capability within the transmission network domain specifically focusing on:
a.Fibre and leased lines network design,
b.Network upgrades and the implementation of industry best practices across the regions.
c.Fault Analysis - be able to analyse faults in a systematic matter and propose long term solutions.
Service planning - ensure that all services are configured correctly.
Track rollout - engage with project management and track as per the agreed plan.
Reports - provide detailed reports on availability, performance, trends, route cause analyses, SLA management and continuous service improvement.
Special investigations - engage with supplier and internal stakeholders to swiftly resolved cross functional network issues.

Your responsibilities will include

Formulate the Transmission Infrastructure Strategy for fibre, lease lines and inputs into microwave.
Determine the Transmission Supplier Strategy i.e. Nokia, Huawei, DFA, LA, Telkom etc. for the respective region.
Compile the transmission master plans per region and manage the regions assigned.
Provide input to the High level and Low-level planning guidelines and methods of procedures for installation, configuration and fault finding.
Evaluate and implement new technology and tools.
Compile and provide input to the CAPEX and OPEX budgets nationally. Manage the CAPEX and OPEX budgets allocated to the responsible region including business cases.
Conduct network audits and ensure conformance with the design guidelines.
Define the Transmission KPI's.
Maintain accurate transmission records and provide reports and analyses on the transmission network i.e. technology and infrastructure statistics .e.g. UTL, P1 outages.
Ensure alignment with EBU and FTTX to avoid duplication of microwave and fibre infrastructure.
Conduct continuous engagement meetings with regions to identify and resolve planning issues.
Ensure that the transmission performance and availability targets are achieved.
Negotiation and leadership skills a must and be able to engage with various stakeholders internal and external.

The ideal candidate for this role will have

Technical / Professional Qualifications:

Minimum 3-year Degree/Diploma in electrical engineering or computer science.
Minimum 3-5 years in the telecommunications industry.
Minimum 3 years' experience in microwave transmission, network planning, optimization, and performance management/improvement.
Preferable 3 years' experience in transmission network planning, optimization, and performance management/improvement.
Minimum 2 years of exposure to GSM, UMTS, and/or LTE mobile telecommunication technologies.
3-5 years of experience in transmission for mobile radio networks and associated technical investigations, research, and fault finding.
Experience of using network planning tools.
Strong understanding of telecommunication networks and standards.
