Developing a strong technical understanding of polio and measles immunity estimation methods and SACEMA training materials to train and mentor fellows effectively.
Developing fellowship-specific training materials with input from the SACEMA research team.
Meeting weekly with each fellow to:
+ Provide training and technical support (explain concepts, recognise data issues, adapt models to country data, troubleshoot coding mistakes);
+ Mentor fellows on identifying suitable research questions based on available data;
+ Guide fellows in communicating complex modelling topics with government stakeholders;
+ Ensure fellows stay on track and that fellowship logistics run smoothly.
Project Management
Leading the SACEMA team responsible for screening, interviewing, shortlisting, and selecting fellowship applicants.
Leading the SACEMA research and operations teams to ensure that technical and logistical timelines are met.
Liaising with SACEMA's operations staff and fellows' institutions to keep all parties informed of fellowship contracts, invitation letters, and related information.
Collaborating with the Fellowship Manager at AIMS Senegal to ensure alignment between the English- and French-speaking fellowship arms.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes PhD in a quantitative field (e.g. statistics, programming, applied mathematics, etc.).
The technical ability to learn and apply public health modelling tools and methods.
Strong organisational skills.
Experience in project and people management.
Willingness to travel internationally for short periods (three to five days) as needed for fellowship-related activities.
Three to five years' experience in mentoring students or professionals, ideally in an academic or research environment.
