Position Sommelier

Monthly Paid (x1)

Fixed Term Contract

As our Sommelier, you will suggest suitable wines to pair with dishes on the menu that fit their tastes and complement their food. You are an inspiring, empowering and results-orientated leader with a passion for service excellence whilst maintaining standards and meeting or exceeding financial goals.

Along with training other restaurant staff, you will pair food and wine with set menus, a la carte and special events. Conducting wine tasting for hotel guests and VIPs following trends in the beverage industry and aligning the offering of beverages through movements will form part of your role.

You will ensure the presentation and temperature of all drinks are correct and place orders for all wines and other beverages, ensuring that the wine service area is set up and ready for service. Apart from providing enough stock and equipment, you will also ensure all equipment is in working order & report if not.

Conducting temperature checks and ensuring all decanters are clean and in good repair will be part of your responsibilities, as will ensure a minimum loss through breakage, waste, theft, and incorrect orders. You will be responsible for monthly stock take of beverages, managing a healthy beverage cost, and promoting guest satisfaction.

You must adhere strictly to the provisions and regulations in the Liquor Act (No. 59 of 2003) and other regulations that may apply to the sale of alcoholic beverages.

Along with yourCertificate from Cape Wine Academy/WSET Level 2 or above, you have 2 - 3 years wine tasting experience and applicable product knowledge. In-depth knowledge of wines - grape varieties and regions, harvest times, climates, soils, and winemaking process and being able to communicate and explain this to guests will see you far in this role.

You are passionate about wine and the hospitality industry, with excellent interpersonal & communication skills and a strong customer service orientation. Your ability to maintain a professional working relationship with all departments and the ability to be comfortable in dealing with a very distinguished clientele is vital to this role.
