Job Summary This position is a two-year contract based in Johannesburg (Bryanston), Gauteng. A public financial institution : The Investment officer will be responsible for the origination of new business and the monitoring of the project portfolio: - in the financial sectors (loans and guarantees to public banks); - to contribute to the development of new financial products in South Africa (structured finance products, unfunded guarantee products, local currency facilities, etc.); - in the social sectors in South Africa (higher education, housing, social business) through loans or grants to various entities (banks, enterprises, NGO and philanthropic organizations) ; and - potentially contribute to the monitoring of operations in one of the other 9 countries that the Johannesburg Regional Office is monitoring. The Investment officer will report to the Head of the Financial and Social Sector Unit. Regular travels in South Africa and the region could be expected. Key Responsibilities: 1.1 Portfolio development : xefx82xb7 Establish and maintain a dialogue around key impact objectives identified in strategy (transition and climate finance, financial inclusion, SME finance, finance, etc.) with Government entities, other Cooperation Partners, research institutions, public and private companies and financial institutions; xefx82xb7 Identify business opportunities and assess their feasibility in line with objectives; xefx82xb7 Coordinate identification/appraisal missions and discussions on economic, financial, legal, social, environmental and technical aspects necessary to evaluate potential funding operations; xefx82xb7 Conduct in-depth financial credit risk assessments; xefx82xb7 With the support of technical teams in Paris, prepare reports and project documentation to be submitted to company decision-making bodies; xefx82xb7 With the support of the legal counsels based in Paris, negotiate financial documentation (term sheets, credit facility agreements, securities); xefx82xb7 Identify opportunities for technical advisory and partnership between local & regional institutions (namely Central Banks and other regulatory bodies), French institutions and other Cooperation Partners.* 1.2 Portfolio management : xefx82xb7 Manage and assist clients with procurement processes for intellectual services; xefx82xb7 Process disbursement requests related to approved funding; xefx82xb7 Monitor on-going projects (loans, technical assistance and research programs) and participate in supervision missions and the preparation of mission briefs; xefx82xb7 Monitor compliance with contractual obligations and implementation issues; if necessary, propose timely corrective action (waivers, amendments); xefx82xb7 Review operational and financial documents (covenants, reports etc) from clients for annual risk review. 1.3 Strategy and communication activities: xefx82xb7 Contribute to the FI strategy in the region through the mapping of key stakeholders and identify business opportunities in line with the Groups strategic objectives and policies; xefx82xb7 Participate in seminars/conferences/workshops and prepare documents for seminars /conferences/workshops on activities, including presentations; xefx82xb7 Contribute to communication and media presence (drafting of opinion pieces; preparation of projects presentation documents, organisation of events). Skills required xefx82xb7 Proven analytical, financial analysis and financial modelling skills applied to Financial Institutions; xefx82xb7 Ability to learn fast in a dynamic environment; xefx82xb7 Ability to build and entertain a quality network both internally and externally; xefx82xb7 Strong interpersonal skills; xefx82xb7 Committed to sustainable development; xefx82xb7 Pro-active, logical reasoning, problem solving, analytical skills and detail-orientated; xefx82xb7 Willingness to work in multi-cultural environment. Qualifications & experience xefx82xb7 A relevant Masters degree in Finance, Accountancy, Economics, Business Management or CA (SA) or CFA; xefx82xb7 Proven fluency in English (written and oral); xefx82xb7 Knowledge of French would be a plus; xefx82xb7 Experience of 5 years in the banking/DFI space in South Africa or/and in Africa; xefx82xb7 Experience in international procurement would be a plus; xefx82xb7 Prior international experience would be a plus; xefx82xb7 A valid working permit to work in South Africa is essential
