Project Execution and Supervision

Oversee day-to-day construction activities for all civil works packages: station buildings, platforms, equipment rooms, access roads, and utilities.

Ensure that civil works are executed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, drawings, and method statements.

Coordinate sequencing of works and manage interfaces between structural, architectural, MEP, and systems disciplines.

2. Construction Planning and Coordination

Review and approve construction programmes, work breakdown structures, and lookahead schedules submitted by contractors.

Coordinate with engineering, procurement, HSE, and quality teams to align construction activities with project milestones.

Ensure efficient use of resources including labour, materials, plant, and equipment.

3. Quality and Compliance

Enforce strict adherence to quality control procedures and specifications during all construction phases.

Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), ensure compliance with building codes, railway standards (e.g., PRASA, Transnet), and SANS specifications.

Monitor contractors' workmanship and materials to ensure durability, safety, and fitness for purpose.

4. Health, Safety and Environmental Management

Champion a safety-first culture across all civil construction worksites.

Ensure compliance with project HSE plans, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Regulations, and environmental permits.

Lead incident investigations, risk assessments, and implement corrective actions as needed.

5. Stakeholder and Contractor Management

Interface with client representatives, local authorities, consultants, subcontractors, and third-party stakeholders.

Chair daily and weekly site coordination meetings.

Ensure timely issue resolution and address challenges proactively to prevent delays.

6. Progress Monitoring and Reporting

Track construction progress against schedule, identify variances, and implement recovery plans where necessary.

Prepare and present weekly/monthly progress reports, site diaries, photographic records, and dashboards.

Support commercial team with measurement of works for interim valuations and variations.
