Job Advertisement: Bursar and Accounting Teacher

About the Role
Simond Private School is seeking a dynamic and values-driven Bursar and Accounting Teacher to join our dedicated team. This dual role combines financial leadership with academic excellence -- overseeing the school's financial operations while teaching Accounting (Grades 10-12, IEB and CAPS) and EMS (Grades 8-9).
The successful candidate will be passionate about both financial stewardship and education, demonstrating strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills while upholding the Christian ethos and entrepreneurial culture that define Simond Private School.
Key Responsibilities
As Bursar

• Manage all school financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Oversee fee billing, debt collection, and payment plans to maintain a healthy cash flow.
• Ensure compliance with accounting, audit, tax, and financial regulations.
• Maintain an asset register and insurance coverage for school property.
• Manage procurement, contracts, and supplier payments to ensure best value and quality.
• Apply entrepreneurial thinking to develop additional revenue streams (e.g. rentals, events, partnerships).

As Accounting & EMS Teacher

• Teach Accounting at Grades 10-12 (IEB and CAPS) and EMS at Grades 8-9.
• Develop and deliver engaging, high-quality lessons aligned to CAPS and IEB standards.
• Integrate real-world financial literacy and business principles into classroom practice.
• Assess and report on learner progress in accordance with school policy.
• Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen cross-disciplinary learning and community engagement.

Minimum Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Financial Management, or equivalent.
• PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education).
• SACE registration and valid Police Clearance Certificate.
• Clearance from the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO).
• Minimum 5 years' experience in financial management, preferably in an educational setting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and accounting software.
• Proven ability to teach Accounting and EMS effectively in line with CAPS/IEB requirements.

Advantageous

• 5+ years' experience in school bursary, billing, and budget management.
• Experience working with parents and fee management systems.
• Advanced financial systems knowledge and emerging AI/data analysis skills.
