Shift Supervisor

Job Description

An established company in Mobeni is seeking an experienced Shift Supervisor to oversee the smooth operation of production during their shift.
Key responsibilities include managing staff and resources, ensuring targets and output are met, maintaining equipment, and driving continuous improvement by addressing bottlenecks and supporting departmental projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Walk the floor regularly:

  • Correct utilization of resources (material, people, machinery, time
  • FIFO (First-in-First-Out) followed
  • Correct jobs planned and being run (according to schedule)
  • Daily Output and quality checks are verified (any discrepancies investigated and reported on)
  • Pass info on any issues incurred with jobs or machines to next shift supervisor
  • Communicate urgency of jobs (priorities) and schedule with team
  • Quality, production and downtime related info collected daily
  • Assist with green area meetings as per template and record minutes
Production Plan:
  • Ensure machines and jobs are running according to plan
  • Correct sequence of jobs
  • Correct quantity produced (short production reported)
  • Correct machine used & targets met
  • All necessary resources available for running of future jobs
Maintenance:
  • Create maintenance job cards & ensure issues are addressed.
  • Follow up on job cards, breakdowns and parts arrivals
  • Ensure all services and planned maintenance is carried out as per schedule.
Labour (People):
  • Ensure overall labour control, discipline and utilization
  • Discipline is maintained and controlled during shift
  • Machines are manned as required (according to priorities & important jobs)
  • Absenteeism reported
  • Clocking's done correctly and signed off for payroll to process
  • Correct break times followed (no excessive time away from machines)
Overall Equipment effectiveness (OEE):
  • Ensure correct output (speeds), quality and machine uptime achieved
  • Analyze and find solutions to address problems
  • OEE boards filled in daily with the required information as per OEE procedure
Material Control:
  • Ensure all receipting and issuing of materials completed correctly by department as required by Abaca work instructions.
  • Responsible for all WIP within department
  • Any quantity shortages to be communicated to the manager & production planner by means of email.
Consumables:
  • Control consumables & consumption
  • Ensure the correct consumables (according to work ticket) and FIFO is followed
  • Quality issues for consumables recorded and reported.
  • Material issued on Abaca as required.
Work Ticket:
  • Ensure proper control of work tickets is done
  • All information on work tickets checked, understood and followed
  • Right artwork and quality produced according to "last-off sample"
  • All relevant information/ documents completed correctly.
Quality:
  • Check the correct quality is being achieved.
  • Ensure all work ticket & quality checks are being done
  • Ensure samples in the work ticket are being checked against the job being run.
  • Ensure any Non conformances that have been created and allocated to the department are being closed out correctly and timeously.
Health and Safety:
  • All processes and procedures for Health and Safety followed during shift
  • Comply with operating rules & regulations
  • Report and investigate any incidents during shift
  • Health & Safety of staff is ensured (PPE for staff is adhered to)
  • Property & equipment is operated correctly & safely
ERP Software:
  • Shopware ERP experience an advantage
Requirements:
  • Grade 12
  • Related qualification
  • Formal Supervisory/ Management Qualification preferable
  • Computer literate can use word/excel
  • Experience with supervising/ managing people
  • Experience in manufacturing environments
  • Experience managing materials/ consumables
  • Lead and manage a shift.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Information and task monitoring.
  • Capture information accurately and timeously (nice-to-have)
  • Ability to work in team with people (and train and pass knowledge on)
