SHERQ MANAGER
Introduction:
The SHERQ Manager will be based at the Durban Branch and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality systems to ensure compliance with legal requirements and industry standards. This role supports a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence across all departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety & Health
- Develop and enforce occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other relevant legislation.
Environment
- Monitor environmental impact and ensure compliance with environmental regulations (e.g., NEMA).
- Lead sustainability initiatives and waste management programs.
- Prepare environmental reports and liaise with regulatory bodies.
Risk Management
- Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Maintain a risk register and ensure regular reviews.
- Facilitate risk awareness training and workshops.
Quality Assurance
- Oversee quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
- Conduct internal audits and manage external certification processes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis.
- Training & Communication
- Develop and deliver SHERQ training programs.
- Promote a safety-first culture through effective communication and leadership.
- Report SHERQ performance metrics to senior management.
REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION IN TERMS OF SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or related field
Certifications: SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, ISO Lead Auditor (9001/14001/45001) preferred
Experience: 5+ years in SHERQ or HSE roles, preferably in logistics
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of South African legislation, risk management, and quality systems
Soft Skills: Leadership, communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving
